A Military Kit Chest belonging to Raymond K. Adams 11001115 R.A. containing a large quantity of World War II Ephemera relating to his service with the 25th East Africa coast Artillery at Fort George Mauritius. The collection includes: Assorted buttons, cap badges and insignia and a combat dog tag all relating to the R.A.; a large quantity of original photographs depicting the Fort George Garrison in full tropical uniform, good quality images of the various landmarks and scenery in Mauritius and many of the native inhabitants, most interestingly a wedding involving walking over hot coals; Letters sent and received to his home in Hereford detailing life during active service and also life in Hereford during the War; Books and Manuals and War-time Publications including `Coast Artillery Drills` and `Health Memoranda for British Soldiers in the Tropics` and a 1944 copy of `Fat George magazine`; a quantity of contemporary packaging including Pears Soap Tin, Anti-Mosquito Cream, Gibbs Shaving Stick and also an unopened Emergency Rations Tin; Everyday items including cutlery shaving kit, belt, two general issue knives etc also souvenirs presumably acquired in Mauritius. *Interestingly an unopened parcel was found in the chest which was found to be a brooch purchased in St Louis presumably for a loved one who never received it. The lot also comes with photograph portrait of R.K.J. Adams in combat dress and also his brother George Adams who served with the RAMC in the middle East

The tube original and charged with mercury
AN EARLY VICTORIAN MAHOGANY STICK BAROMETER signed on the engraved and silvered register plate Cary London with vernier, lacquered brass cap and mercury thermometer, having pagoda pediment and bun cistern cover, 96cm h The silvering on the dial unevenly discoloured, the mahogany repolished. It is not charged with mercury.
19th Century Anglo-Indian mother-of-pearl, abalone shell and brass inlaid hardwood cased stick barometer by T. Wheelhouse of Hatton Garden, London, shaped arch pediment, allover foliate bird and ribbon decoration, ivory register plates with double rack and pinion Vernier scale, fahrenheit and Reaumer thermometer, cushion shaped cistern cover, 114cm high.
Victorian silver deskstand of oval form decorated with embossed foliage and with scroll borders, standing on conforming feet. Fitted a central taper stick flanked by an ovoid shaped cut glass inkwell to either side. Bears presentation inscription to David Davies M.R.C.S. I.S.A., 1876. Makers Richard Martin and Ebenezer Hall, Sheffield 1875, 33cm wide. David Davies was the Medical Officer of Health for Bristol, he was succeeded in the position by his son David Samuel Davies in 1886 (see lot 781).
