Also verso is the artist`s handwritten story regarding the picture "The day Aunt Mary forgot to bring the umbrella, and what an afternoon we had. Usually, when Mother, Grandma, the Aunts and Miss Carter, as well as George and I set off along Lees Road on our way, either to look at Buckley and Procters shop or go on to the market. We liked Oldham Market, especially on Fridays, but we had to remember that a train load of bulls were unloaded just behind Lees Road and were driven through the streets, through Lees and Springhead until they came to the fields. Oh, but what a to-do it was. We had listened quite a long time near that Pawn shop door, when Mother said she couldn`t hear anything, so we set off, fortunately we hadn`t gone far when we had to run and get in the shop. Just then we saw Mr Taylor who waved his stick at them and the year was 1909". Provenance: gifted by the artist to her physician and thence by direct descent to the present vendor.
