The Alex `Hurricane` Higgins collection; from his long term friend and driver Charlie Cooke-comprising his famous trademark Fedora hat from his 1982 World Title winning era, a converting walking stick/snooker cue, a signed and inscribed book entitled `The Hurricane The Turbulent Life And Times Of Alex Higgins` by Bill Borrows, that was a gift to Charlie Cooke`s late mother and reads as follows `To Irene love and best wishes lovely Sunday lunch enjoy your dancing all the best Alex Hurricane Higgins`, which Alex gave to Charlie`s mum Irene after a particularly enjoyable Sunday lunch at her house, a photograph of Alex Higgins towards the end of his life with Charlie and four other friends in a Manchester pub, an order of service for Alex Higgin`s funeral that Charlie attended, together with a letter of provenance from Charlie Cooke relating to the items within this collection, which reads as follows "From 1975 until the year 2010 when Alex passed away, I was one of his true friends. Throughout the 80`s I drove Alex to many tournaments, including his World Title win at the Crucible in 1982, looking after his every need. The Fedora that Alex mostly wore during this period was given to me by Alex just after his famous victory. Sadly the satin lining was ruined by the sugared sweets that Alex sometimes kept in the hat for his young daughter Lauren. "Here you can have it Charlie, I`ll get another" he said to me. The very same hat was loaned by me to Mick Moody the base guitarist of Whitesnake, who wore it during their reunion tour of Europe in the 80`s. The walking stick that converts into a snooker cue was given to Alex in Dublin. On the way back to Manchester we stopped off at a snooker hall where Alex racked up a 100 break with it. He gave it to me a year, or so later. The photograph of me with Alex and a few friends (I`m the one on the far left with my arm raised) was taken in a pub in Gorton about three years ago. The signed book was given to my late mother for cooking him a lovely Sunday lunch. "The last time I saw Alex was early on in 2010. Not long after that I received a phone call from his sister asking me if I would attend his forthcoming funeral. Which, with great sadness, I did". Signed Charles E Cooke (Charlie) (illustrated)
