A Pair of Portuguese Silver Altar Candlesticks, maker`s mark AIG, unidentified, Lisbon, 18th century, in baroque style, of triangular section tripod form, of multi-knopped form with high relief neo-classical elements including husks, scrolls, masks and shells, the capitals with later associated white metal mounts with tongue and dart detail, leaf sheathed campana nozzles and removable sconces (sconces Joseph & John Angell, London 1838), 55cm high (excluding later lamp fittings) Stick 1 - bent foot and wobbling. Tiny hole mid stem. Stick 2 - appears good throughout. 050213
A Pair of Rococo Revival Silver Table Candlesticks, John Watson, Sheffield 1817, with shell moulded sconces and bulbous nozzles, on waisted stems enriched with acanthus leaves, to deeply moulded shaped circular weighted bases, each numbered S25 and S26, 29cm high Stick 1 - does not quite sit flat on a flat surface. Minor lean to the stem. Hallmarks are slightly rubbed but still easily legible. Some of the scroll extremities on the basal rim have been thumped. Otherwise condition good. Stick 2 - slight angle to the stem. Some of the scroll tips around the edge of the base have been thumped and are quite substantially squashed. Some deep denting around the nozzle rim. Both sticks are fairly heavy gauge and there appears to be no holes. However, both have been quite heavily used so are slightly worn throughout. 050213
A Mahogany Stick Barometer, signed C W Dixey, 3 New Bond St, London, circa 1840, with concealed mercury tube, single vernier ivory scale signed, well figured case with ebony stringing to the borders, turned cistern cover, 95cm high 16.01.13, Case with small dents to the ebony borders and small dents to the edges, the ivory adjusting knob is chipped, ivory dial is dirty in parts, mercury is visible in the tube, mercury is leaking from the cistern cover, needs to be restored.
A Rosewood Stick Barometer, signed Chadburn, 71 Lord St, Liverpool, circa 1850, with concealed mercury tube, single ivory vernier scale signed, thermometer tube, turned cistern cover, 91cm high 11.12.12, Case with some minor dents to the edges of the trunk, arch top with veneer slightly lifting, dial is slightly dirty, mercury is visible in the tube.
