A MOUNTED POLICE OFFICERS BATON. A black painted baton stick of a mounted city police officer. 23.3/4" long with painted crest of a castle in the centre with three towers flying pennants. The legend reading Nisi Dominus Frustrata, with a crown above. The motto is used by the Edinburgh Police, though the castle appears differently depicted.
A LANG PERCUSSION WALKING STICK-GUN. An I Lang Patent of 7 Haymarket London N3 made concealed shotgun, as a folding action walking stick. Originally sold in a case with rifled or smoothbore interchangeable barrels, 42.1/2" when ready for firing. The folding ramrod or cleaning rod, sits neatly in the muzzle with blank plug end. Joseph Lang 1821-1853 was working at this address, before moving to grander premises. The bark effect finish and proof marked barrel, along with his makers name on the action are indicative of a good quality made piece. See Illustration
