Australian Aboriginal works of art To include a wooden spear thrower, being of traditional dished elongated elliptical form, approx. 84cm long, a boomerang of traditional shape with fluted domed edge to one side and opposing adzed to the other, approx. 68cm long, a wooden vessel, of traditional dished wooden form bearing traditional poker work decoration to the outside, these vessels were predominately used by the tribal women to carry food and then later as a digging tool, approx. 47cm long, a handcrafted carved wooden object with poker work decoration, being of lizard form, approx. 42cm long, and a wooden hunting stick, aka killing stick, the curved heavy object with grooved carving to one side and adzed flat underside, these vicious objects were thrown horizontally at a target, sometimes up to 200m (650ft), much like a skipping stone on the water surface they could bounce off the ground to reach and break the prey's legs, slowing or stopping it, approx. 75cm long. (5) Provenance: according to the vendor's family history, these items were acquired from the Hermanburg Mission, Australia, during the 1960s.
