A mahogany stick barometer, c.1810, the silvered brass dial inscribed 'W Fraser & Son London', with rack vernier, the arched top over a visible tube and cistern cover,98.5cm highProvenance: The barometer has been in the current owner’s family for four generations. It originally came from the Nag's Head Public House, known locally as the ‘Half Way House’ as it stood on the Ware road, halfway between Hertford and Ware. The current owner’s great-grandfather was the proprietor and landlord of the Nag's Head at the end of the 19th century and left it to his son, who took over as landlord before the turn of the 20th century. When he retired, he took the barometer with him, eventually passing it to his daughter who passed it on to her son, the current owner.
A Rare 18th Century Primitive Ash Country Armchair with residual green paintwork. The boarded back with bar top surmounted by a rustic cresting rail raised on three stick spindles. The broad shaped plank arms on stick supports leading down to a rope bound seat standing on three splayed legs, 45 ins (114 cms) high, 29½ ins (75 cms) wide, 21 ins (53 ins (53 cms) deep.
