An early 20th century Black Forest style carved wood bear stick stand, 73 cm high See illustration Condition report Report by GH Large crack all the way down from the top of the head to the bottom of the back, approx. 2 mm wide. Both front feet loose. Other cracks down the grain on the wood, including on the arms and the base. General wear and tear. The drip tray is slightly bent and broken. The carved hoop for the stick stand also appears to have been broken off and re-glued. Generally quite poor. No obvious wood worm.
An early 20th century Black Forest style carved wood bear stick stand, 85 cm high See illustration Condition report Report by GH Little or no evidence of any woodworm. Some splitting down the grain of the wood, specifically near one elbow of the bear, and some very minor splits down the back. No obvious major damages or repairs, and generally presents very well, with all teeth and eyes intact, wooden hoop secure, and metal liner present. Overall very good with only minor wear, and occasional chips, scratches and dents commensurate with age.
An early 20th century Black Forest carved wood standing bear (probably a stick stand originally), 84 cm high See illustration Condition report Report by GH Has possibly been applied a coat of varnish at some point. There is a chip to the tongue, and some chips around the base. Some of the varnish is also cracking and lifting. Around the back there is a secret compartment of approx. 10 x 25 cm, and there are a couple of vertical cracks to the wood extending from the top and the bottom of this compartment. When viewed from beneath, it is apparent that this figure has been converted from a stick stand as there are two holes beneath the paws. There are also a few wood worm holes, particularly on the top of the paws. Other occasional cracks, chips and scratches. The base is almost certainly not original, and appears in a slightly different shade to the rest of the piece
