CONDITION REPORT: Height 105 cm, width at widest point 55.5 cm, depth 26.5 cm. We can see no evidence of any makers mark. The condition is generally good. A 19th century rosewood inlaid mother of pearl stick barometer, by Blachford & Imray, London. CONDITION REPORT: The brass cistern cover appears to have later retaining screws. The rosewood case is in generally good original condition as is the mother of pearl. The sides of the piece are in good order. The vernier adjustment screw operates as it should. The angled scales are a little dirty and discoloured and the right hand scale has a hairline crack in the bottom right hand corner. The top moulding above the scale but below the cornice and pediment is a later replacement. This is loose. The pediment is original. There is an hinged bracket to the rear of the barometer which is a later replacement presumably in the absence of the gimbal. There is no mercury visible in the tube.

The construction of the barometer is professional and the glazed door is of square. The hinges appear to be original. The paper label is in generally good order with very minor discolouration. The door hinges are probably later replacements. The main body of the barometer is in generally good order as the are the sides and back. The cistern cover which we cannot remove is in good condition also. There is no mercury in the tube. There have been some minor repairs to the crossbanding around the door.
A George III mahogany stick barometer, by Jeremiah & Walter Watkins, circa 1790, Charing Cross, London. Height including finial 102 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This barometer is in first class condition and could be used or re-sold in its current state without the need for any repairs or restoration. There is a very small scuff to the right-hand top corner below the swans neck. The dial is brass and has clearly recently been re-silvered. The mahogany is of extremely good quality and the polish is good. There is an old stress crack to the bottom half of the cistern cover but this is not problematic. The piece is really in extremely good condition.
