Brome, 1668, half-title discarded, etched portrait frontispiece by Cross, with expertly repaired closed tear, slight chipping to fore-edge, and early manuscript shelfmark to upper blank margin, title with woodcut border, index at rear with publishers advertisement to verso of final leaf, some toning, bookplate of K.F. Russell on front pastedown, front hinge sometime strengthened, lacking rear free endpaper, contemporary sheep, rubbed, especially to joints, small 8vo Wing D1423. Sir Kenelm Digby was one of the first fellows of the Royal Society. "This book is mainly medical and contains recipes, some of which are even more filthy and superstitious than those of any preceding books. 'A Sympathetick cure of the Tooth-ach. With an Iron-nail raise and cut the gum from about the Teeth, till it bleed, and that some of the blood stick upon the nail; then drive it into a woodden beam up to the head: After this is done, you never shall have the tooth-ach in all your life.'"
