A small mixed lot of old Sheffield plated items, comprising: a pair of candlesticks, circa 1790, of tapering circular form, classical capitals, on raised square bases, beaded borders, height 28cm, plus a taper stick of Corinthian column form, circa 1770, on a raised square base with a beaded border, and a wax jack, circa 1790, wire-work lyre form, on an oval base, reeded border, ring handle with an oval thumb piece. (3) Provenance: the candlesticks were purchased from S.J.Shrubsole, Museum Street, London 27 November 1972.

A George III silver chamber stick, by Paul Storr, London 1817, circular form, gadroon borders, urn shaped capital, leaf capped scroll handle, with a conical snuffer and chain, engraved with a crest, diameter 16cm, approx. weight 14oz. Engraved with an episcopal mitre and the badge of a Royal Duke, probably for Frederick, Duke of York and Albany and Bishop of Osnabruck.

John Rittson, a Georgian walnut stick barometer: the silvered plates signed The Great Barometer, Made & Sold by John Rittson within an opening glazed front door, the case having a concealed tube, moulded edges, break-arch pediment with cast-brass finial and turned cistern to the base, height 95cm.* Biography A John Rittson is recorded as working in Tekrill, a town in North Yorkshire, in the mid-eighteenth century, which would equate to other barometers signed for him that have the addition of the name Terill engraved on the dial, quite possibly a version of the town name. He is also known to have been both a clock and watchmaker.
