Captain Edward Cornish Henley, 2nd/4th Royal Hampshire Regiment, a group of six medals, comprising 1939-45 Star, The Africa Star, The Italy Star, 1939-1945 Defence Medal and 1939-1945 War Medal, and Territorial Efficiency Medal, George VI, dated 1950, together with two dog tags, cap badge, leather-covered swagger stick and an Elliott and Fry Ltd black and white studio photograph of Capt. E. C. Henley in uniform. Captain Henley (son of Major C. F. Henley) was killed in action by an artillery shell while conferring with another company commander during the attempted Crossing of the River Rapido at Monte Cassino, 12 May 1944. TEM confirmed London Gazette 21 June 1950 as Capt. (T. Maj.) E. C. Henley (943-12) (killed in action). This lot also includes some research papers and photograph and negatives of the Cassino Military Cemetery grave inscribed to Major E. C. Henley.
