A rare Rolex 6239 Daytona Cosmograph Paul Newman wristwatch. This exciting and rare model has serial number 1083449, from 1964, with a black and silvered panda dial. This highly sought after timepiece is in working order, with both buttons working. However, the seconds hand does stick at twelve o'clock and the head of the winding crown is not threading correctly. This Rolex comes with the original bracelet. The watch is in original condition. Provenance: We are delighted to have the full history of this exceptional wristwatch, purchased in Malaga by Mr Juan Sanchez Gomez. We have accompanying photographs of the gentleman wearing the wristwatch in the 1970s and the watch has remained in the family ever since. It has finally been left with the original owners godson. We have full documentation to support this provenance. Condition: There are some scratches to the glass, strap and case, also to the detailed outer bezel which also has some black enamel missing. As stated, the seconds hand also sticks at twelve o'clock with some threading issues to the crown.
A Victorian sycamore, ash and pine stick-back armchair, IrishThe back with bar toprail and angled upright spindles, the curved arms interlocking with the outer back upright, with solid plank seat and splayed legs, originally painted, 60cm wide, 38cm deep, 83cm high.Referred to as a ‘Gibson chair’ and distinguished from other Irish chairs by the arrangement of the angled sticks in the back, these chairs are generally seen as indigenous to Leinster, a province in the east of Ireland. The Irish characteristic of the arm interlocking with the back uprights is a practical way of giving additional strength to the chair. The origins of the name ‘Gibson’ are unclear.See Kinmonth, Irish Country Furniture 1700-1900, Yale 1993, page 39, fig 37 for an identical chair.
