CALDWELL & COMPANY NEW YORK, AN AMERICAN CHINOISERIE GENTLEMAN'S DESK SET EARLY 20TH CENTURY Inlaid gilt-metal mounted leather, comprising: six items including a blotting pad with two celadon jade roundels each 5.5cm diameter and a glass inkwell with jade finial, various sizes, incised mark to pen holder 'E.F. Caldwell & Co. Inc. New York' and three 20th century Chinese cinnabar lacquer boxes and covers, the largest 19cm long (9)Dreweatts have applied for a de minimis for this this lot ref: D2F39BZ9Provenance: Property of Harry Taft Hayward (1868 - 1930) and Edith Wires (1872 - 1962) Skyring House, Worthing, and thence by descent Harry Taft Hayward (1868 - 1930) - cousin to William Howard Taft, 27th president of the United States - and Edith Wires (1872 - 1962) were members of the Boston elite. Their two daughters, Mary Elizabeth Hayward (1906-1976) and Harriet Taft Hayward (1907-1968), lived at Oakwald, Franklin, Massachusetts and were both painted by the artist Sir John Lavery (1856 - 1941); see Christie's, The Scottish Sale at The Assembly Rooms, Edinburgh, 6975, 28th October 2004, Lot 152. There is also Sterling Silver Pendants & 925 Sterling Silver Fine Chain, The 9ct Gold Jewellery gross weight is approx. 6 grams. To include 9ct Gold Real Sapphire Nose Stud, a pair of 9ct Gold Jade Earrings, 9ct Gold Ball Stud Earrings and a pair of 9ct Gold clear stone earrings missing butterfly backs. The 14ct Gold Jewellery is a pair of broken earrings gross weight is approx. 1.21 grams. The 22ct Gold Jewellery is a small heart pendant that is stamped '22ct'. The weight is approx. 2.20 grams.

A small collection of Chinese Jade and Hardstone. Carved pendants, snuff bottle, belt slide, carved animals etc. Thirteen pieces in total. The Brown Jade Belt Slide measures approx. 6 1/2 cms length x approx. 4.5cm width. There is a couple of Jade Pendants on fine Sterling Silver Chains. The Jade Pendant with the lady meditating measures approx. 4cm x 2cm. The other Jade Pendant measures approx. 5cm x 3cm. There is also an Oval Cabochon Aventurine Quartz Pendant on a fine Sterling Silver chain. There is missing marcasite stones in the pendant. There is a Banded Agate Pendant as well. The snuff bottle has a purple tint. The bottle is painted with blue tree trunks and white flowers blossom tree. It has a red glass top that doesn't fit. It measures approx. 3 inches high.
