An early 19th century William IV 3 piece lustre garniture - candelabra. The large central stick with gilt eagle surrounded by facet cut glass drops with single sconce candle holder above. The matching smaller pair with gilt rococo overhangs and facet cut glass drops with single sconces above. Largest measures 41cms high / smallest 23cms high
2nd millennium BC and later. A mixed group of haematite, schist and other stone cylinder seals with mainly figural and geometric detailing; including one Late syro-Cappadocian cylinder seal with contest scene (1835-1740 BC); on the right a man in a wrapped robe, facing left, driving by stick a pack donkey with charge on its back; on the left a man with a long neck attacks by a stick in both hands an ostrich(?), its body is shown as a large ball. See Collon, D. Near Eastern Seals, London, 1990 for discussion. 17 grams total, 11-30mm (1/2 - 1 1/4"). Property of a London gentleman; previously acquired on the UK art market, 1990s. A Burmantofts Faience chamber stick. The handle formed as a surmounted lizard, glazed in blue, brown and green. Impressed mark, model 834, 10cm. Provenance; The F. C. Upton collection.Condition report intended as a guide only.Crazed with some staining inside the sconce. Slight chipping along the lizards spine. Hair crack visible only on the inside of the domed foot. No repair.
