Alfred Dunhill - Novelty Art Deco faux cigarette lighter minaudière, Exclusive and high quality makeup/powder compact set, in the shape of a lighter, with a perfect finish and elaboration, with all over engine turned design. This piece was manufactured by the Alfred Dunhill company in 1928. It looks similar to Dunhill lighter model "Unique C", fabricated from 1925 to 1930, but in a larger measure, the cross bar stamped 'DUNHILL', the striker formed as an eye liner, the hinged arm lifting to reveal a screw top perfume with dip stick, the hinged front opening to reveal mirror and powder compartment with original puff and powder still present, the base with pull-out lipstick tube, the underside stamped, PATENT APPLIED FOR, PROV. PAT. 14444/28, 2 3/8in.(6cm.) wide. *Condition: in excellent condition, the only thing to note is the eye liner missing it's pin slide (still functional).
A small collection of silver and enamel hatpins, 20th century, comprising of six pins, to include a pair by Lawrence Emanuel, Birmingham, 1943, the Guilloche enamel terminal disks decorated with floral sprays on white ground, together with a blue guilloche enamel version by the same maker and a further three pins to include an Art Nouveau version by Pearce & Thompson, Birmingham, 1908, one stamped 800 and one shaped as a maple leaf. *Condition: the pair with tiny flea-bite nibbles to edge of enamel, one stick soldered, the version stamped 800 with tiny fracture, overall very good.
An Edwardian horse measuring gadget walking stick/cane, Swaine & Adeney Ltd, London, made from birch, metal mounts, the pull out metal rod with fold out level, measuring in centimetres and hands, 27½in. (69.9cm.) long. *Condition: the fold out level section missing level, otherwise very good.
Aboriginal Weapons - probably 19th century, comprising of a Parrying Shield of elliptical form, incised with geometric waved/diamond cross hatch decoration and an integral handle, 36½in. (92.8cm.) long; Nulla or Waddy hardwood club with bulbous tapering end and crudely carved grip, incised with lighting strikes, 31½in. (80cm.) long; Boomerang/throwing stick of slightly curved form, decorated with bands of cross hatch and incised spears/clubs and boomerangs, slightly shaped handle, 36in. (91.5cm.) long; hardwood oar with chiselled paddle and spear end, 32¾in. (83.2cm.) long. (4) *Condition: each piece with very good aged patina, tips of some pieces slightly rutting.
WWI Flying Corps interest - Medals, Archive & Ephemera - Relating to 2nd Lieutenant Leslie Reed Blacking - No. 207 Squadron, an important and fascinating collection, to include medals - RAF Volunteer Reserve medal; Efficiency Reserve medal; Victory and War medals, matching miniature dress medals and bar; original issue fibre identity / Dog tag; other insignia and badges; silver mounted swagger stick; large amount of family related ephemera and possessions, to include personal letters, photograph album - containing photographs of 2nd Lieutenant Leslie Reed Blacking in uniform, various RAF aircraft to include Sopwith Camel etc; a book - 'DARKNESS SHALL COVER ME, Night bombing over the Western Front 1918' by Humphrey Wynn with original typed manuscript, a quotation from page 222, "Suddenly a German fighter appeared alongside us, the pilot wearing a pickelhaube and monocle. He looked very like Kaiser Wilhelm II and gave us a mock salute with his fingers". * The book dedication reads, "Dedicated to the gallant memory of all those who flew on the Western Front in the First World War, and especially to that of my dear friend Leslie Reed Blacking and those who served with him on NO 207 Squadron at Ligescourt in 1918".

This substantial work contains a plethora of beautiful designs, to be worked in varying techniques, for household linen and clothing, e.g. fans, shoes and slippers, gloves, stomachers, borders, night caps, jackets, neckerchiefs, muffs, neck linen, gown hems, hats, bags, aprons, tassels, saddle cloths, and book covers. This volume was purchased by Martin Orskey at Sotheby's in 1968, apart from which no other copy has been seen at auction. The V&A has a copy of the work in its collections.
