A Victorian bentwood hat and coat stand, of typical form with four downswept legs. CONDITION REPORT: The stick stand is in generally good structural order. We have removed the tape and Sellotape from the coat hook. There has not been a full break at this point only a partial springing of the S scroll. This appears to have been effectively repaired and the scroll is as strong as all of the others. There are no further significant areas of damage to the top. The centre column is in good order all round. There is no damage to the base only some marks which appear to correspond perhaps with tape that has been removed. The circular top loop has a join split and a old pegged repair. Generally speaking the piece is sound and only somewhat dirty.
A 19th century carved ebony and thread bound walking cane, the carved ebony grip in the form of a dog with inset coloured glass eyes and with silver metal collar above the tapering body bound in wax black thread and with metal ferrule. 93.6 cm long (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The shaft of the stick is oval and there are loose threads throughout and some patches where the threads have unwound and are missing. The carved head grip itself has small knocks to the eyebrows of the dog but nothing too significant. There is a small fine split to the front of its rear left ear which starts at the top and works its way down to the collar. Other than these faults this is an attractive item.
