S.T. Dupont Limited Edition "Taj Mahal" lighter. Limited edition no. 0307/2000 complete with box and papers. Purchase: 4/29/2003. The Taj Mahal is the symbol of the eternal love between Emperor Mogul, Shah Jahan and his queen, Mumtaz Mahat. On the deathbed, the Queen requested that a mausoleum be built to symbolize their love. The construction of the mausoleum, started in 1632, took 22 years and ended in 1654. Among the 20,000 participants, countless craftsmen from Europe and Central Asia also passed by. The Taj Mahal was built with materials from India and Asia, such as white marble, jade crystal, turquoise lapis lazuli, sapphires and more than 28 different types of precious and semi-precious stones. S.T. Dupont has been inspired by this mythical construction to create a collection of unique objects thanks to the skill of artisans, using noble and precious materials such as platinum and mother-of-pearl. the thin floral decorations in Mother of Pearl and pearl lace remind us of the beauty of the white marble in combination with green stone, Alpinite, and give brightness and value to the object.
