When the Daytona was first introduced in 1963, it was not well received, and initial sales were poor. Now, it is one of the most sought after models. There are many different variations of the Daytona available, with different case materials, dials and precious stone set examples. The example being offered here is in 18 carat gold, this adds a layer of luxury to this iconic sports watch. Furthermore, the case houses one of the most celebrated movement, the Zenith El Primero, a movement that was brought out of retirement only two years before its use in the Daytona. Although created by Zenith, the movement was extensively reworked by Rolex, with only half of the original Zenith parts retained. The date function was removed and a new, high precision balance and escapement was installed. Condition Report: Movement is currently functioning.
