λ DICK LEE (BRITISH 1923-2001) TURNER, 1976 Mixed media construction 41.5 x 51cm (16¼ x 20 in.)Provenance: Private Collection, WiltshireWhen Lee was a lecturer, he would create sculptures relating to exhibitions, and hang them in the studio, as a way to encourage his students to attend. The present work was in response to the Turner exhibition held in 1976 at the National Gallery, London.
Hercules Brabazon Brabazon, British 1821-1906- Giudecca Canal, Venice;pencil and watercolour on paper, signed with initials 'HBB' (lower right), bears later inscription with the artist's name, dates, and title on the backing board, 18.2 x 25.2 cm. Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: The present work is a particularly striking example of the many Venetian scenes that Brabazon Brabazon produced over the course of his career, with the church of Le Zitelle faintly outlined to the right of the otherwise hazy composition. This atmospheric watercolour clearly references the approach of J.M.W. Turner (1775-1851), resembling the latter's own watercolour of the Giudecca Canal which is now in the collection of the Tate Galleries [D32129].
Hercules Brabazon Brabazon, British 1821-1906- View over a town, with dhows on the Nile beyond, Egypt; pencil and watercolour heightened with white on paper, indistinctly inscribed 'Feshn [?] / on the Nile' (lower left), 13.2 x 21.1 cm. Provenance: with The Leger Galleries, London, 1966. Anon. sale, Christie's, London, 13 February 2003, lot 254. Private Collection, UK. Note: The artist made extensive sketching trips to Egypt, India, North Africa, Morocco, Tunisia, pain, and Italy. Following in the footsteps of JMW Turner and Richard Parkes Bonington, atmosphere and light is hugely prevalent in his watercolours, which are invariably executed with a confident loose handling.
Albert Goodwin, RWS, British 1845-1932- Flüelen, Lake Lucerne; black chalk and watercolour heightened with white on paper, signed and indistinctly dated 'Albert Goodwin / 97[?]' (lower right) and inscribed 'Flulen [sic.], Lake Lucerne' (lower left), 24.3 x 36.5 cm. Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: Goodwin was a prominent landscape painter who worked principally in watercolours. He was influenced by the Pre-Raphaelite approach of Ford Madox Brown (1821-1893) and Arthur Hughes (1832-1915), under whom he studied. As well as producing a number of watercolours during his extensive travels, he was heavily inspired by the British landscape and returned to the subject repeatedly. Goodwin's paintings reveal the undeniable influence of J.M.W. Turner (1775-1851), particularly in the artist's confident use of colour and light to produce works which are strikingly atmospheric.
Hercules Brabazon Brabazon, British 1821-1906- A View of the Upper reaches of the Grand Canal with S. Simeone, Venice, after Canaletto; pencil, watercolour, and bodycolour on paper, 20.8 x 33.6 cm. Provenance: Anon. sale, Dreweatt-Neate, Newbury, 30 January 2002, lot 188 (£3,000 hammer). Private Collection, UK. Note: This composition is directly informed by Canaletto's (1697-1768) striking view along the Grand Canal in Venice, which is now in the collection of the National Gallery in London [NG163], whilst also recalling Venetian scenes by painters such as J.M.W. Turner (1775-1851), such as his view from the Porch of Maria della Salute in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum in New York [99.31].
Alexander Nasmyth, Scottish 1758-1840- Portrait of a gentleman, traditionally identified as George Hay, 7th Marquess of Tweeddale, with his horse and two dogs, in an extensive landscape; oil on canvas, 117.5 x 154.2 cm. Provenance: The Collection of Mrs Hamilton, according to an old label attached to the stretcher bar. with Partridge Fine Art, London. Property of the late Hugo Morley-Fletcher, MA FSA (1940-2022), (purchased from the above in 1998). Note: Nasmyth, often described as the 'founder of Scottish landscape painting', began his career as an assistant to the pre-eminent Scottish portraitist Allan Ramsay (1713-1784). After initially depicting individual sitters, from 1780 Nasmyth started to produce group portraits - revealing the influence of conversation pieces by artists such as Johann Zoffany (1733-1810) - including his portrait of the 'Children of William Ramsay of Barton' which sold at Lyon & Turnbull, Edinburgh, on 9 June 2019 (lot 9) for £78,000. The present composition successfully combines the artist's skill as a portraitist with the sweeping, dramatic landscapes for which he was chiefly celebrated, a formula which is also very much evident in other paintings, as in his portrait of Lady Honyman and her Family in the collection of the National Galleries of Scotland [PG 2303]. Nasmyth shaped the nature of Scottish painting and was the teacher of a generation of important British artists including David Wilkie (1785-1841), David Roberts (1796-1864), Clarkson Frederick Stanfield (1793-1864), and Andrew Wilson (1780-1848). George Hay, 7th Marquess of Tweeddale DL (1753-1804) was a Scottish peer and naval officer. He was a great-grandson of John Hay, 2nd Marquess of Tweeddale and the former Lady Mary Maitland (a daughter of John Maitland, 1st Duke of Lauderdale). In 1785, he married Lady Hannah Maitland, a daughter of James Maitland, 7th Earl of Lauderdale and Mary Turner Lombe. Together, George and Hannah were the parents of eleven children. We are grateful to Lady Cooksey, author of 'Alexander Nasmyth 1758-1840', for confirming the attribution of the present lot.
John Varley, OWS, British 1778-1842- View of Harlech Castle, Wales; pencil and watercolour on paper, signed 'J Varley' (lower left), 14.3 x 18.3 cm. Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: Varley was a prolific watercolourist and a close friend of William Blake (1757-1827). He was an influential figure in the development of watercolour painting in Britain, as one of the founders of the 'Old Watercolour Society' in 1805, and also instructed a number of significant watercolourists in the generation to follow, including John Linnell (1792-1882), David Cox (1783-1859), Copley Fielding (1787-1855), and William Turner of Oxford (1789-1862). Varley depicted Harlech Castle and the surrounding landscape on a number of occasions, including in a similar view which is in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London [298-1900].

Patterson. R.F.A.) very minor enamel damage to wreath on DSO, and minor edge bruise to QSA, nearly extremely fine (2) £2,000-£2,400 --- Importation Duty This lot is subject to importation duty of 5% on the hammer price unless exported outside the UK --- --- D.S.O. London Gazette 26 June 1902: ‘In recognition of services during the operations in South Africa.’ Norman Patterson was born at Long Benton, Northumberland, in 1879, the son of the Reverend Patterson, and was educated at Jesus College, Cambridge. He won many prizes for athletics at Cambridge, distinguished himself in Association Football, and received his commission as an University Candidate. He joined the Royal Horse Artillery as a Second Lieutenant on 21 May 1900 and served in South Africa during the Boer War under Lord Methuen, taking part in operations in the Transvaal and Cape Colony from July 1901 to 31 May 1902. Patterson distinguished himself in the action at Klerksdorp on 25 February 1902, ‘pluckily directing the fire of the Artillery’ during the Boer assault, before being captured and taken prisoner of war. The Times History of the War states: ‘Towards evening on the 24th February 1902, Anderson’s convoy, after two days of uneventful marching, crossed the Yzer Spruit and camped on the farm lands of Elandslaagte, thirteen miles from Klerksdorp. The next day’s march was to be the last, and so little was danger dreamt of that Paget’s Horse, 80 strong, were permitted to ride into Klerksdorp that same evening. At 4.30 on the following morning, while it was still pitch dark, the convoy resumed its march, with a company of infantry on either flank, an advanced guard of Yeomanry supported by the guns and a company of infantry, and a rearguard of similar composition but without artillery. About half-an-hour after starting, at a point where the ground first begins to fall towards the Jagd Spruit, the advanced guard approached a dark expanse of bush. Suddenly, the border of this thicket, scarcely twenty yards distant, was outlined in flame, and Liebenberg’s bullets swept through the troops and transport. A few minutes later Kemp attacked the centre and Celliers the rearguard, which was still near the camping-ground. Disaster, under the circumstances, was scarcely avoidable; yet all these first assaults were steadily repulsed. Under the fire of the artillery, pluckily directed by Lieutenant Patterson, Liebenberg's men recoiled into their scrub; Kemp's attack flickered out; Celliers alone hung like a bulldog on the rearguard. In the meantime, the wagons, which had stampeded to the rear at the first alarm, were rallied by Lieutenant Turner and parked, by Anderson's orders, near the front of the column in partially sheltered ground. Daylight was strengthening, when Kemp charged right up to the convoy, but was again driven off. There was a partial lull, in which Anderson ordered the convoy to advance supported by the rest of the column. It would have been wiser, perhaps, to have concentrated round the wagons and waited ; for every movement of the panic-stricken convoy was fraught with peril. In advancing to the Jagd Spruit the drivers got out of control, threw some of the troops into confusion, and finally lashed their teams pell-mell down the slope. A sharp declivity bordered the drift; the first wagon stumbled and stuck others followed suit, and then the whole mass collapsed into irremediable confusion. The spectacle heartened the Boers. De la Eey ordered a general charge on horseback, with fire from the saddle. The rearguard, under Captain A. L. Phillips, which hitherto had stood unflinchingly under heavy losses, gave way before overwhelming odds; the guns and other troops were ridden down, and although many brave groups of men fought to their last cartridge, the Boer victory was assured. Sunrise shone upon a complete disaster. Save a few men who escaped to Klerksdorp, the whole force, with its artillery and material, was in De la Eey's hands. Five officers and 48 men were killed; 6 officers and 124 men wounded; the rest were prisoners.’ Promoted Lieutenant on 16 April 1902, for his services in South Africa Patterson was Mentioned in Despatches (London Gazette 17 June 1902); received the Queen's Medal with five clasps; and was created a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order, most certainly for his gallantry at Klerksdorp. He was invested with his D.S.O. by H.M. King Edward VII on 24 October 1902. Subsequently serving in India for several years, he passed the highest examinations for the Staff in India, spoke Hindustani fluently, and was for some time Instructor in Signalling. A great sportsman who shot much big game in India, he died at Bareilly, India, on 2 May 1909, from the effects of injuries caused by an accident to his horse. Sold with a photographic image of the recipient, and copied research.

On 17 April while cruising off the west coast of Italy, Captain William Prowse in the Sirius 36 gained intelligence of a French flotilla about to sail that morning for Naples. The Sirius closed with the flotilla soon after sunset within two leagues of the mouth of the Tiber, near Civita Vecchia, on the west coast of Italy. At about 7.00 pm, the Sirius attacked the enemy vessels which comprised the Bergère, three brigs, a bomb vessel with two heavy mortars, a cutter and three gun ketches, totalling 97 guns. The action, conducted at pistol shot distance, lasted for two hours until the Bergère hailed a surrender. Some of the other French vessels were badly damaged and had ceased firing but Sirius was prevented from pursuing due to her crippled rigging. Captain Prowse received a vase of 100 guineas for this action from the Lloyd's Patriotic Fund. Francis John Turner entered the Navy on 12 July 1800, as First-class Volunteer on board the Dorset yacht, Captain Sir Alexander Schomberg, employed off Dublin in attendance upon the Lord-Lieutenant. He served next on the Home and Mediterranean stations from February 1801 until 1 February 1803, in the Glenmore 44, Captains John Talbot and John Maitland, and from 23 September in the latter year until promoted to the rank of Lieutenant, 19 December 1807, in the Melpomène 38, Captains Robert Dudley Oliver and Sir Peter Parker. In 1804 he assisted, as Midshipman, in twice bombarding the town of Havre-de-Grace. He served in Sirius in action with a French flotilla of 15 sail off the Tiber in 1806 and in Pompée at the reduction of several fortresses on the coast of Calabria in the same year. His last appointments afloat were – 30 December 1807, to the Humber, Captain John Hill, on the Falmouth station; 25 August 1808, to the Comet 18, Captains Cuthbert Featherstone Daly and Richard Henry Muddle, employed in the Bay of Biscay, at Newfoundland, and among the Western Islands; 5 June 1813, after two years of half-pay, to the Goliath 74, Captain Frederick Lewis Maitland, from which ship, stationed at first in the West Indies and next on the coast of North America, he was sent, in March 1814, to the Hospital at Bermuda; and in September of the latter year, for a few months, to the Akbar 50, Captain Archibald Dickson, on the Halifax station.

D.S.M. London Gazette 21 January 1916. The recommendation states: ‘H.M.S. Egmont. Service in Siberia 5 to 8 October 1915. For services during the battle of Lisbona. Was the senior N.C.O. in charge of the two British 4.7in guns on Velike Vrachar which were in action against an overwhelming fire from the enemy’s artillery during the days and nights of the 5, 6, 7 and 8 October, until both guns were finally crushed and destroyed. They were fought to the last with superb bravery and devotion to duty.’ Charles Arthur Pearce was born on 22 May 1882 and enlisted as a Private in the Royal Marines on 23 January 1901. Ranked as a Gunner in November 1901, he became a Sergeant in September 1913 and Colour Sergeant in February 1916. During the early months of the war he served aboard H.M.S. Audacious; in February 1915 he was posted to the British Naval Mission in Serbia. The purpose of the Naval mission to Serbia was to prevent the Austrian monitors and patrol launches from using the Danube. As the Serbians had no floating forces and were weak in artillery, the Austrian monitors were free to bombard Serbian positions at will. Directly after the re-occupation of Belgrade by the Serbians in December 1914, a party of R M.L.I. and seamen were sent hither from Malta. This mission was strengthened in February 1915 by the arrival from England of eight 4.7-in, guns, accompanied by eight R.M.A. ratings under Sergeant C. A. Pearce. The eight 4.7's were organised in four batteries of two guns each, the R.M.A. providing the higher numbers of No. 1 Battery, and seamen those of the remainder. The 4.7 batteries were widely separated to command the rivers, only the R.M.A. No. 1 Battery, under Sergeant Pearce, being close to Belgrade itself, its position being on Veliki Vrachar Hill, on the south-east of the city. By 1 October the Austro-Germans had effected a great concentration opposite Belgrade, and on the morning of the 3rd a terrible bombardment was opened. It was estimated that in the first 24 hours some forty-eight thousand shells fell upon the doomed city. No one had better cause to appreciate the magnitude of Belgrade's bombardment than the occupants of No. 1 Battery on Veliki Vrachar Hill. Commanded by a Serbian artillery officer, with another Serbian officer as second-in command, the battery was composed of Sergeant Pearce with a Corporal and four gunners of the Royal Marines, and a small crew of Serbian soldiers to assist with the heavy work. Of the latter Sergeant Pearce said he could not speak too highly. For the first four days the battery reserved its fire, waiting for the first sign of the enemy to attempt to cross the river. On the 7th they could wait no longer, but opened fire on the batteries along the river front, and for the rest of that day carried on an engagement with no less than 24 Austrian guns. The inevitable happened. As soon as the battery opened fire the aeroplanes corrected the range, and the enemy shells, instead of passing overhead, began to fall upon it. They managed to keep up the unequal contest all day long, and most of the next day, until those two guns were all that was left of Belgrade's defences, and nearly the whole of the Austrian artillery was concentrated upon them. Inevitably, on the night of the 7th, the No. 1 gun was put out of action, and on the following day the No. 2 gun suffered a similar fate. In face of heavy fire, the breech blocks and carriers of both guns were stripped, and under cover of darkness the gun detachments retired to a small village a few miles from Belgrade. In all two were killed and fourteen wounded, these remarkably small casualties being attributed to the excellent construction of the battery. Sergeant Pearce and his gallant little team now joined the rapid retreat of the Serbian army which began on the 12th November, in the face of the advancing Austrians and Bulgarians. Reaching Ipek in Montenegro in late November the most difficult part of the journey remained to be made. The way was across the mountains of Albania to Scutari. Winter had set in, the tracks were so bad and so congested with the debris of the Serbian army that all wheeled transport had to be abandoned, and there was in consequence a great shortage of food. On 13 December the men of the batteries reached Podgaritza, on the 15th Scutari, and on the 19th San Giovanni di Medua. Sergeant Pearce was by now ill with dysentery but the remainder of the party were embarked on H.M.S. Dartmouth and proceeded to England. Sergeant Pearce and Corporal A. H. Turner were each awarded the D.S.M., the six Gunners all being mentioned in despatches. Pearce was uniquely awarded the Gold Medal for Bravery and the Gold Medal for Military Virtue, the other members of the battery between them being awarded a further 14 Serbian decorations, probably making them the most highly decorated battery in the history of the Royal Marine Artillery. Colour Sergeant Pearce was awarded the R.N. Long Service medal in October 1916 and was commissioned in September 1917. He was further decorated with the Belgian Croix de Guerre for his services with the R.M.A. Siege Guns in 1917. Temporary Lieutenant Pearce was placed on the Retired List in July 1919; appointed to the Special Reserve of Officer in November 1920, this being cancelled on 4 February 1921 on his being granted a permanent commission in the Army Educational Corps. Pearce died on 16 September 1966.

D.S.M. London Gazette 24 February 1916. The original recommendation states: ‘H.M.S. Gwendolen Lake Tanganyika, whose shooting was of a very high standard rendered the redoubt untenable in the morning engagement, and hampering the enemy’s movements during the afternoon engagement. Petty Officer Mitchell displayed much ability in drilling the native boat crews to a very creditable state of efficiency, and it was largely due to his efforts that a rapid and safely conducted embarkation was achieved.’ Ernest Charles Mitchell was born in Plymouth, Devon on 3 February 1884 and entered the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in June 1899. By the outbreak of hostilities, he had been advanced to Petty Officer and was serving in the cruiser H.M.S. Pegasus, and he was likewise employed at the time of her memorable action with the Konigsberg off Zanzibar on 20 September 1914. In the lead up to her final action, Pegasus had bombarded the customs house at Bagamoyo in German East Africa, when the port authorities refused to agree to a truce. Less than a month later, on 20 September 1914, her consorts Hyacinth and Astraea having been called away, she was undergoing repairs at the port of Zanzibar when she fell victim to a surprise attack launched by the Konigsberg. Deeds That Thrill the Empire takes up the story: ‘For twenty-five minutes the Konigsberg poured in her relentless broadside, steaming slowly in until she had reduced the range from nine thousand to seven thousand yards; and still the shells of the Pegasus failed to reach her. The shot fell harmlessly into the water hundreds of yards short of the enemy cruiser. The poor little Pegasus was in a bad way from the start. The enemy’s shooting was not good, but with the advantage of range they were able to take their own time, and the British ship soon began to suffer severely. One of the first to be hit was the gunnery officer, Lieutenant Richard Turner, whose legs were shattered by a shell. As he lay stricken and bleeding to death his thoughts were all for the honour of his ship and his service “Keep it up, lads,” he said to his men. “We’re outclassed and done for; but d--- them, and keep it up!” So, having asked for brandy and a cigarette, Lieutenant Turner died; but the men “kept it up.” In fifteen minutes all the guns of the Pegasus had been silenced and not one of their shells had reached the enemy, whose guns had a range greater by two thousand yards. The cruiser’s flag was shot away from its staff. Instantly a Marine ran forward, seized the flag, and waved it aloft; and when he was struck down another came and took his place. The flag flew until the end. There was no braver man that day than the medical officer of the Pegasus, Staff-Surgeon Alfred J. Hewitt. Nearly all the casualties occurred on deck, and there he was from the start to the finish, giving what help he could to the wounded men. On one occasion he was holding a ruptured artery in the neck of one man, and, with his other hand, stanching the flow of blood in the leg of another, while his assistants went for bandages. He could do nothing to help in the fighting, but there was certainly no braver man in the ship. When she had fired about two hundred shells, the Konigsberg withdrew, leaving the Pegasus a battered and fast sinking wreck. At the beginning of the action there were 234 officers and men on board the British vessel, and of these 35 were killed and 53 wounded … ’ In a controversial decision, Commander R. Ingles, R.N., Pegasus’s captain, had in fact struck her colours to avoid further bloodshed, but his action was ignored by the Konigsberg. Among the survivors, Mitchell was borne on the books of the Hyacinth and selected for special duties on Lake Nyasa. The lake had already witnessed the first naval engagement of the Great War, when H.M.S. Gwendolen, an ex-missionary steamer which had hastily been converted for use as a gunboat, attacked the German gunboat Hermann von Wissmann on 14 August 1914. The latter was on a slipway at Sphinxhafen and sustained serious damage. Mitchell was otherwise occupied aboard the Pegasus at that time, but he was clearly present in future actions fought on the lake, the first of them following the arrival of Lieutenant-Commander G. H. Dennistoun, R.N.V.R., who took command of a budding British flotilla, including the captured German tug Helmuth. And that action took place on 30 May 1915, after local fishermen reported that the Hermann von Wissmann was under repair. Gwendolen landed a detachment of Askaris, who secured the area, prior to charges being placed on the enemy gunboat, and further action being taken by way of gunfire. The recommendation for Mitchell’s D.S.M. certainly appears to fit this action, rather than a later quoted date in December 1915 on Lake Tanganyika. Be that as it may, the Germans once more set about restoring the von Wissmann to operational fitness, thus resulting in another visit by the Gwendolen to their lake shore base at Spinxhafen. A boarding party of Askaris found the enemy gunboat unmanned and, taken in tow by Gwendolen, it was re-christened ‘H.M.S. King George V’ of the Royal Navy’s Nyasa Flotilla. Dennistoun and the flotilla remained actively employed until his return home in 1918, assisting in the transportation of supplies for our land forces. He was awarded the D.S.O. For his own part, Mitchell was gazetted for his D.S.M. in February 1916, added the L.S. & G.C. Medal to his accolades in September 1917, and appears to have remained actively employed on the East Africa station until returning to an appointment in Vivid in June 1918. He was finally pensioned ashore in February 1924. Sold with an original letter from the recipient, written in January 1964, in which he explains the background to the Lake Nyasa operations, and his part in them.

Registration – ADL 37KChassis No. – THPNMB02295M.O.T. – January 2026Odometer – 52,800 The stunning ‘ADL 37K’ dates from 1972, right in the middle of the three year Ford ownership of the Italian sports car manufacturer De Tomaso. As such ‘ADL 37K’ is fitted with the 351 cu in Ford Cleveland V8 engine mated to the five speed ZF manual transmission. The low down torque of the Ford V8 notably lends the Pantera a level of drivability and usability not always present in its Italian engined peers. ‘ADL 37K’ has benefitted from excellent preventive maintenance and enjoyed numerous mechanical upgrades in its current, 12 year ownership. ‘ADL 37K’s’ odometer records 52,800 miles which is thought by the vendor to be original. This sublime blend of Italian supercar style and muscular Ford V8 power is offered with a number of workshop manuals. The fabled De Tomaso Pantera was always a low volume car despite Ford’s three year ownership of the company. At its peak production averaged three cars per day with around 7,000 cars ultimately being built and sold. The Italian – American collaboration extended to the design of the Pantera, too. Italian firm Carrozzeria Ghia handled the design with their American-born designer, Tom Tjaarda, creating the concept. This innate scarcity combined with the striking design will virtually guarantee that ‘ADL 37K’ is a head turner without parallel. The vibrant yellow livery only adds to the drama with the black Pantera decals informing the uninitiated exactly what they are gawping at. The enthusiast owner rates the bodywork as “excellent” and the paintwork as “good.” Inside ‘ADL 37K’ features the original seats and all dials and gauges are reported as working. No electrical faults are reported, and the interior condition garners a “good” rating.Since in its current ownership ‘ADL 37K’ has been fastidiously cared for. Both engine and gearbox have been re-gasketed and a softer cam has been fitted with all the associated work undertaken. A new McLeod clutch system was fitted in 2013. An uprated Wilwood braking system has also been fitted to include master cylinder and servo. At the same time areas of the engine bay and wheel arches were stripped and undersealed with quality German products. With good oil pressure reported the engine receives an “excellent” rating as do the transmission and electrics. Here is a vanishingly rare opportunity to acquire an excellent example of the ultimate in automotive Italian American collaboration. In summary:A striking, rare and highly desirable Italian American supercarIntelligently and expertly uprated and improved whilst respecting originalitySupplied with a number of new, valuable suspension components
Registration – BWP 317MChassis No. – BFATPY00469M.O.T. – ExemptOdometer – 60,055Given the number of prizes and awards won by ‘BWP 317M’ there can be no question about the quality and diligence of its restoration. ‘BWP 317M’ has been in its current ownership since 2013 and was restored over an 18-month period initially to be a rally car. However, with such a no compromise job undertaken ‘BWP 317M’ essentially chose its own path as a highly regarded show car. During the restoration a huge number of upgrades were undertaken to all aspects of the car with only the highest quality components used. It is no surprise then that the vendor attests to ‘BWP 317M’ driving faultlessly and being a bona fide head turner. Classified as an Historic Vehicle ‘BWP 317M’ is zero rated for road tax and MOT exempt and so is ready to turn more heads immediately.‘BWP 317M’ is finished in Ermine White which contrasts beautifully with the red Mexico decals. This pristine livery combines with the front quarter bumpers, quad Cibie lamps and four spoke RS alloy wheels to deliver a true classic rally car look. Inside, new contour front seats with adjustable headrests have been fitted with the rear bench trimmed to match. A three spoke black anodised alloy RS steering wheel is also fitted. It can come as no surprise that the vendor rates the paintwork, bodywork and interior as “excellent.”The aesthetic presentation and quality of ‘BWP 317M’ is, in some ways, just the mouthwatering entrée to the banquet that is the mechanical specification. The Ford Kent engine has been bored out to 1700c, a steel crank shaft fitted together with forged pistons and rods and a 244 camshaft. A stage 3 cylinder head is fitted together with a duplex timing chain and timing gear, roller rockers, new old stock 40 DCOE Weber carburettors and a lightened and balanced flywheel. A full Piper stainless exhaust system and manifold are present, as is a strut brace, electronic ignition and a high torque starter motor. A custom alloy radiator is fitted together with an upgraded electric fan and a full silicon hose kit. It’s not just ‘BWP 317M’s’ engine that has been so thoroughly upgraded either. A four-speed Rocket transmission is fitted together with the correct English axle and limited slip differential. The brakes have been upgraded to Wilwood items at the front and 9-inch drums at the rear. The suspension consists of coil overs on the front and a Gaz adjustable set up at the rear. Once again all mechanical aspects of ‘BWP 317M’ are vendor rated as “excellent.”In this instance the astounding condition of ‘BWP 317M’ and the quality of the restoration and upgrades can be validated and corroborated by external sources. Registration – ULX 512Chassis No. – 277336M.O.T. – ExemptOdometer – 59,031Originating from 1957,’ULX512’ is from the last year of the so called “EIP” or “E-series” designation Velox models. This was a longer, wider variant introduced in 1951 which shared its body with the Vauxhall Wyvern. ’ULX512’ is a characterful example of Vauxhall’s luxury six-cylinder saloon designed to compete with the Ford Zephyr and the Austin Westminster. ’ULX512’ is offered from a period of stable, enthusiast ownership dating back to 2009. Today the E-series Velox is a rare car indeed with only around 20 thought to still exist in the UK. Last MOT’d in 2008 at 58,500 miles it seems clear that ’ULX512’ has had sparing recent use with just 500 miles or so added since then. Today ’ULX512’ offers MOT exempt and zero rated road tax status based on its Historic Vehicle classification and comes with a number of original workshop manuals.’ULX512’s’ looks reflect Vauxhall’s 1950’s penchant for offering cars with blatantly American inspired styling. This gives the Velox real road presence and charm by the bucket load, being so fundamentally different from the cookie cutter models of today. ’ULX512’ has benefitted from a more contemporary respray in Dove Grey as well as being fitted with a complement of “new old stock” chromed brightwork. This combination, together with the partial spats at the rear, the full width “grinning” grill and the ostentatious bonnet ornament make ’ULX512’ s surefire head turner. The vendor considers the paint and bodywork as “good.” The interior is equally as charming with twin full width bench seats providing the accommodation. These are finished in brown, box pleated vinyl with the whole interior also rated as “good.”Given ’ULX512’s’ luxury saloon status a 2,262cc inline six cylinder OHV engine features. Configured more for sedate and refined cruising than outright speed this unit was originally rated at around 65bhp. This originally gave the Velox a perfectly respectable, for the time, 80 mph top speed. A three speed manual gearbox is fitted. During the current ownership a new wiring harness has been fitted. All mechanical aspects of ’ULX512’ are vendor rated as “good.”In summary:· One of only around 20 Velox E-series cars thought to remain in the UK· Presenting well due to a contemporary respray and new old stock chrome· Complete with some useful, original workshop manuals

The bodywork is set off by a brown cabriolet-look vinyl roof and multispoke wheels with white-wall tyres. Originally used in the US, records show it was imported into the UK in January 2022; it’s had just one owner here in the UK. Powered by a 4.1-litre Cadillac V8, ‘B654EYB’ is naturally paired with an automatic transmission, for maximum waftability. ‘B6754WYB’ may be remarkable on the outside, but it is inside where it really shines. The interior is simply superb, with colour-matched leather featuring extra-comfortable seat bolsters. There are deep-pile carpets, lashings of wood veneer and even Seville-branded reading lamps in the rear. The driver has plenty of elegant switchgear at their fingertips, while a fancy electronic ‘Information Center’ helps them keep a watching eye on the Cadillac’s vitals. In the centre is a period fuel computer, climate control array and a ‘Symphony Sound’ stereo with electronic display. Overall, this is a wonderful example of 1980s American luxury that is a guaranteed head-turner at classic car events. The Cadillac Seville is, by US standards, a mid-size luxury car, although in the UK it’s decidedly executive-sized. The first generation was introduced in 1975, offered in a variety of bodystyles with some coachbuilders even creating bespoke models. This car is a second generation model, introduced in 1980 as a smaller and more manoeuvrable model. It switched to front-wheel drive, and offered a range of engines including a controversial diesel. Most customers rightly stuck with the traditional V8. After almost 200,000 were produced, Cadillac switched to the third-generation Seville in 1986. · 1985 Cadillac Seville V8· Imported into the UK in 2022· Striking specification outside and in

Registration – PCD 951GChassis No. – P1K3829BWM.O.T. – ExemptOdometer – 66,112 ‘PCD951G’ hails from 1968 and so is a post-facelift example of the Daimler 2.5 V8 which was renamed the V8-250 at that point. The earlier 2.5 V8 was the first Jaguar designed car to wear a Daimler badge, basically being a re-branded MKII Jaguar saloon. ‘PCD951G’ is an eight former keeper car with the current vendor owning it for around 5 years or so. ‘PCD951G’ shows a recorded 66,000 miles or so which appears to be supported by the MOT history. ‘PCD951G’ has been subject to an earlier restoration and was resprayed in 2020 at a cost of £1,700 or so. ‘PCD951G’ is classified as an Historic Vehicle and so is MOT exempt and zero rated for road tax. The Daimler was last MOT’d in 2019 at 54,681 miles and is offered here with a big history file containing instructive paperwork from all periods of the car’s history. The facelifted Daimler was notable for its “slimline” bumpers and overriders but in most other external ways it was very similar to the earlier car. ‘PCD951G’ looks very sophisticated in its grey livery which represents a re-application of the original hue dating from 2020. A key differentiator over the MKII Jaguar is the signature “scalloped” Daimler radiator grill. A nice set of cross-spoked wire wheels are fitted and affixed with chrome centre spinners embossed with Daimler “D’s.” The luxurious interior is finished in a combination of black upholstery and carpets and lots of great looking varnished walnut veneer. A lovely wooden rimmed alloy steering wheel is fitted as well as a bulkhead fire extinguisher and a contemporary Kenwood CD / radio head unit. The bodywork, paintwork and interior are all rated as “good.”The sweetly running 2.5-litre V8, Edward Turner engine fitted to the V8-250 is one of the smallest production V8s ever produced. It is renowned for its smooth running as well as offering a great performance to economy ratio for a relatively heavy luxury saloon. An Autocar road test of the period clocked an automatic V8-250, like this one, at 112mph with the 0-60mph sprint achieved in 13.6 seconds. ‘PCD951G’ is fitted with a three speed Borg Warner automatic transmission with a column mounted gear change lever. The transmission is rated as “excellent” and the engine and electrics as “good.”In summary:· The subject of an earlier restoration and a full respray in 2020· Complete with a bulging paperwork file· MOT exempt and zero rated for road tax, so ready to enjoy immediately
