A very rare and early programme for the match between the Everton `A` Team & Blackpool South Shore Team on 8th February 1890, in the form of a 4-page match card This programme must surely rank amongst the group of earliest surviving Everton programmes and dates to three seasons before Everton began playing at their newly built Goodison Park ground. It must also be one of the earliest surviving programmes involving Blackpool FC, whose history began in 1887. At this time there were two clubs Blackpool St. Johns and South Shore. At a meeting at the Stanley Arms Hotel on 26th July 1887a breakaway group then formed Blackpool FC. The two teams played against one another in the Lancashire Combination and although more successful than South Shore on the pitch they did not enjoy the same level of support. After a difficult period in League Two between 1896-97 and 1898-99, when they were not re-elected. In 1899 it was decided that the two teams should amalgamate. The name Blackpool FC was kept, but they moved into South Shore`s ground, which was Bloomfield Road. The newly combined club re-entered the Football League in 1900-01. In their own right South Shore`s greatest moment came in season 1885-86 when they pulled of the giant-killing feat of beating Football League founding member Notts County 2-1 in the 5th Round of the F.A. Cup. The cup run ended in the quarter-final with a 2-1 defeat to Swifts.
A fine autographed Sammy Woods cricket bat dating to the 1890s, the bat in used condition by Odd & Son, Croydon, the back of the bat inscribed in ink with the initials S M J W, the face with approximately 22 ink signatures including the Test players S.M.J. Woods, W.G. Grace, A.E. Stoddart, William Gunn, A.C. McLaren, C.L. Townsend, F.S. Jackson, J.T. Hearne, T.Richardson, Arthur Shrewsbury, J.R. Mason, Schofield Haigh, W.H. Lockwood and Alec Hearne, other signatures including J.A. Dixon, John Tunnicliffe and Charles Kortright. "Sammy" Woods is one of only five cricketers to have represented Australia and England at Test cricket, making three appearances for each country. In 1889 he was named one of the five inaugural Wisden Cricketers of the Year. Born in Ashfield, Sydney, in 1867, Woods came to England to be educated at Jesus College Cambridge where he won Blues for cricket, rugby and football. He played his entire county cricket career at Somerset and captained the team for 12 years from 1894 and competed in a total of 299 first-class matches, retiring in 1910. As well as being an all-round cricketer who excelled at batting, bowling and in the field, he was also an all-round sportsman and played and captained England at Rugby Union and was a founding member of the Babas. Woods also played soccer and hockey at county level. Provenance: The collection of the late Richard Robinson, Somerset CCC Secretary. Robinson bought the bat at an auction at Barber`s in Taunton in the late 1950s.
A 9ct. gold 1897 F.A. Amateur Cup winner`s medal, by Vaughton & Sons, Birmingham, 1896-97, the obverse inscribed THE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION AMATEUR CUP, the reverse inscribed WINNERS. Although the medal in uninscribed with the details of the winners, the Birmingham Assay Office date letter on the medal ran from June 1896 to June 1897. This therefore informs us that the medal must have been presented to the winning team in season 1896-97, namely Old Carthusians FC who beat Stockton 4-1 in a replay at Feethams Football Ground in Darlington. The final at Tufnell Park in London had ended as a 1-1 draw after extra-time. This was Old Carthusians second success in the F.A. Amateur Cup, having won the trophy in its inaugural season of 1893-94. It would also prove their final winning appearance. The club, whose players consisted of former pupils of Charterhouse School, had also won the F.A. Cup in 1881. Nine Old Carthusians were also capped for England at full international level including the Walters brothers, Arthur Melmoth and Percy Melmoth who for obvious reasons were nicknamed "morning" and "afternoon".

MEMORABILIA: Hendrix: Jimi`s Blond (tan) `59/ `60 Duo-Sonic Guitar. During Jimi nine-month stint from March to November 1964, with the Isley Brothers, when he was known as Jimmy James, Hendrix got his first Fender guitar - a blond (tan) `59/ `60 Duo-Sonic. The one Jimi used was manufactured as a short scale guitar 22 ½ inches long, selling in those days for $160. The common blond (tan) finish was discontinued in 1964. He found the Duo-Sonic affordable and that it worked great for the funky rhythms he played while working as a backing musician with the Isley Brothers backing band. Jimi had at one stage fitted his Duo-Sonic with an EpiPhone (Maestro) Vibrato unit but had later taken it off. The rumour is that this guitar went missing whilst on tour in the USA but contrary to this Jimi just tired of using it and it was put away for a while and resurfaced years later in Chas Chandler’s London studio. Chas discovered and managed Jimi. Chas later sold the guitar in 1982 for £400 to Rod Weinberg, who in 1983 reunited the Animals for a world tour. In 1956, Fender introduced the Music Master and Duo-Sonic guitars as affordable "3/4-size" short-scale student models. The Duo Sonic was always a student level guitar. The Duo-Sonic is considered rare and has displayed growing collector value. The Music Master and Duo-Sonic were essentially the same guitar, with the addition of another pickup (in the bridge position) and a toggle switch on the Duo-Sonic. Both models received a slight facelift in 1959, along with all other Fenders. The guitar has been loaned by Cameo to The Jimi Hendrix In London Exhibition held at the Handel House Museum, 25 Brook Street, London W1 for public exhibit from 15th to the 25th October.

BOWMORE-30 YEAR-OLD 30TH ANNIVERSARY Bottle no. 217 of only 600 bottles released. This bottle is much rarer than the legendary Black Bowmore 1st edition. The whisky was distilled in 1963 by Stanley P. Morrison being the year that he purchased the Distillery from Sherriff`s then bottled in 1993 to celebrate 30 years as owners. Like Black Bowmore 1st Edition this bottle was issued bearing a wax seal nd button whicj was not wholly successful and many had to be returned to be resealed with a lead foil capsule. The seal on this bottle has a characteristic vertical crack in the wax but I wanted to retain the original seal and protected the integrity by applying a clear non adhesive shrink film at the time of purchase(1999). The level of the bottle remains unchaged at 4mm above the shoudler line and has the original wax button still attached. For some time now it has been very hard to find a bottle that kept it`s original content. In original presentation wooden box, with certificate of authenticity, signed by W.B. Morrison. Single malt whisky, 70cl, 50% volume.
