Kawasaki Z1300 Fuel Injection 1984 Low Miles - One of only 3 models of mass produced 6 cylinder motorcycles. The Kawasaki Z1300 was the only one that offered water cooling and shaft drive, then eventually digital fuel injection. If you had one of these back in the 80’s you were a lucky person!“B999” has been tucked away in a private collection for a good few years and was last taxed for road use in 1987, (although it was last MOTd in 2010) With just under 12000 miles recorded on its odometer and in a condition that would lend credence this low miles. Apart from brand new stainless steel exhaust being recently fitted by the vendor it is original and very rare to see in the red.Cosmetically in a good condition and the engine runs well, but as with all bikes that have stood, we recommend a level of recommissioning prior to usage. They will never make bikes like these again and as Japanese classics like the Z13’s smaller brother the Z900 whose prices have now hit 20,000 pounds for a good one, Z1300 values are following suit.

PISCHOF ALFRED DE: (1882-1922) Austrian Aviation Pioneer. Manuscript Documentunsigned, four pages, 4to, n.p., n.d. (c.1919), in French. The manuscript is the text of a speech or article and is entitled 'The Airship in World Transport (Conclusion)' and states in part 'In Britain, serious moves are in progress to create a very extensive air service to the colonies. There have been rumours of projects for constructing huge British airships, but these are regularly denied… The miserable outcome of the R34's flight to America could hardly have encouraged the British.' Continuing 'When, in the future, the operation of airships has reached a level of success which is in no way inferior to that of other modes of transport… it will then be possible to think of solving many other problems of worldwide transport. To link e.g. New York with Peking, an airship could take two routes… The quickest… across the continent of North America and the Pacific Ocean… would be about 15,000 kms' Further adding '…a different one… runs from New York directly westwards, passing over Labrador, Baffin Island, the sea of ice and the North Pole, and from there, in a direct line southwards, across eastern Siberia and Manchuria, to Peking…' Concluding 'Whether such a route will ever be used is still difficult to say. But, in view of the highly-developed current level of air navigation, and the speed of progress in recent years, the possibility can be envisaged of such journeys being made in the near future.' With two minor staple holes and very slight age wear, otherwise VG

Clyde Connell (American/Louisiana, 1901-1998) , "Saucer Trip", 1984, ink and watercolor on paper, pencil-signed and dated lower right, pencil-signed, titled, dated, inscribed and localized "Lake Bistineau" en verso, 29 3/4 in. x 22 1/2 in., framed . Provenance: Private Collection, Shreveport, LA. Note: Clyde Connell was born in 1901, the daughter of a plantation owner in Northern Louisiana. In the 1950’s, through her church she became active in civil rights causes throughout the South. From 1954 to 1962, she served as the southern representative to the progressive National Council of the Churches of Christ in New York. It was these bi-annual council meetings in New York that would put her in contact with the most current artistic movements. She would absorb these influences and take them home with her to her studio and house in Lake Bistineau. Connell’s upbringing surrounded by African-American culture would impact her greatly on both a moral and creative level. In fact, her social consciousness and regard for “cast-aside rootless social groups” would prove to be a driving factor in her life. As Charlotte Moser explains in her book on Clyde Connell, “[i]n the 1960s, childhood influences from Afro-American culture re-emerged as major components for her art, first as subject matter in and expressionistic version of social realism and then for its affinities to primitive art.” In the lot offered here, Connell has drawn a series of figures arranged in clusters. Each section has a backdrop of symbols and hieroglyphics, reminiscent of Connell’s Swamp Songs Series, with an inherent tension resulting from the negative space surrounding the clusters. Ancient Near East, northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1000 BCE. A fantastic and wearable (for a small wrist) bronze bracelet. Made from a thin strip of bronze with terminals in a zoomorphic form with large eyes on either side. The outer face of the bronze has thin incised motifs of diamonds with circles inside of them. Custom stand. Size: 2.45" W x 0.45" H (6.2 cm x 1.1 cm); size with stand: 2.75" W x 1.95" L x 3.9" H (7 cm x 5 cm x 9.9 cm).The region of Luristan, which encompasses the rugged Zagros Mountain chain, is famous for its bronze work that was above and beyond the skill level of contemporary groups. The affluent group in Luristan society that patronized the metalworking industry and purchased fine items like jewelry were nomadic horsemen. They would travel into towns and purchase bronze and iron objects from craftsmen there. After death, elite Luristanis were buried with their metal objects; this bracelet would have adorned a woman's wrist in the grave. Provenance: Ex-Private Florida collection acquired in the 1980's Condition: Light green patina with very clear shape and vivid decoration. All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back. An Historically Important Group of Seven World War II Medals to Squadron Leader Sydney Clayton, RAF; Comprising DSO, DFC and Bar, DFM, Air Crew Star, 1929-45 Star, Defence Medal and War Medal, Plus Minatures. As one half of '...the most famous bombing team in the RAF..' Sq Leader Clayton survived 145 operational flights as a navigator and pilot with 107 Squadron, 105 Squadron and 464 Squadron, flying mainly Blenheims and De Havilland Mosquitoes. The Lot also includes over one hundred photographs, including operational photographs, telegrams, letters including those from Air Marshall Harris and press cuttings, a picture presented by De Havilland on his 100th mission, presentation silver cigarette case, commemorative autograph book marking his farewell from the RAF, a letter of gratitude and cuff-links from the Danish Resistance among other items. A unique and outstanding lot. NB: There is no flying log or service record present.(Continuation of description of lot 327); Squadron Leader Sydney Clayton, DSO, DFC and Bar, DFM; Sydney Clayton was born in Dilworth, near Longridge, Lancashire in March 1916. He was educated at the local school before taking a technical scholarship at Preston College. He held various jobs before the outbreak of war, including that of a commercial traveller selling cheese for a local company, before signing up for the RAF in May 1939. Although ambitious to be a pilot, pilot training was oversubscribed, therefore he turned his talents to training as a navigator. Qualifying in 1940, his first operational unit was 107 Squadron flying the Blenheim Light Bombers, mainly on daylight raids. In total Clayton flew seventy-two operational sorties in the Blenheim, many with another World War Two pilot bomber ace, Wing Commander Roy Ralston, resulting in the awarding of a Distinguished Flying Medal in spring 1941 for completing sixty sorties and promotion to Flying Officer. Following a period on instructional duties with No17 OTU, the formation of the first De Havilland Mosquito Squadrons in early 1942 saw Clayton return to active duty with 105 Squadron. His first operational flight was on July 11th 1942, with a low level bombing raid on the submarine base at Flensburg. Badly damaged by flack the plane was forced to 'belly land' at 160 mph on it's return. On October 21st 1942, while crossing the Dutch coast, Claytons Mosquito was attacked by two German Focke Wulfe 109's. Following a fifteen minute encounter, the Mosquito escaped. For his role as navigator in this encounter Clayton was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, with the citation recalling his courage, initiative and devotion. Then on December 9th 1942 Clayton was navigator in another infamous bombing raid when, along with pilot Roy Ralston, they trapped a German train while in a tunnel near Paris. Clayton continued to fly both high and low level raids until March 1943, often with his constant companion Roy Ralston as his pilot, hitting communication and logistical targets, including the Renault Aero Works at Le Mans. Then on 1st April 1943, the RAF's 25th birthday, a low level raid on the Trier Railway engine repair depot, was to be Clayton's 100th operational sortie and last as a navigator. A Distinguished Service Order followed, with many plaudits including Air Marshall Sir Arthur Harris and De Havilland themselves. It was now that Clayton's original ambition was to be fulfilled, and pilot training began. By May 1944 he was flying Mosquito's solo, with his first flight being remembered for having had to land on one engine after a technical failure. With Pilot wings gained, Clayton was posted to 464 Squadron RAAF and began flying Mosquito's operationally on 26th August 1944. It was shortly afterwards, that on 31 October 1944 in a daylight raid, Clayton was involved in one of his most memorable raids with the raid on the Gestapo Headquarters in Aarhus, Copenhagen in support of the Danish Resistance. For this act he received a pair of 'Royal' cufflinks from the Resistance and it formed part of the citation for a Bar to his Distinguished Flying Cross. Having completed 145 operational flights, 100 as a navigator and 45 as a pilot. VE day came on the 8th May 1945 and a return to civilian life saw Sydney Clayton back in Lancashire running an hotel and a newsagents, before joining the Civil Service in 1971. Sydney Clayton died in tragic circumstances at home in Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire in 1976, survived by his wife Margie. Bibliography: 1. Bomber Barons - Chaz Bowyer 2. Mosquito at War - Chaz Bowyer

India, Chandraketugarh Period III, Shunga (Sunga) Period, ca. 185 BCE to 50 CE. A gorgeous and striking piece of fine orange-red pottery with a stamped design around its body and a crenellated rim with further stamped designs around it. A wide band of low-relief figures that appear to be both human and animal run around the widest part of the body. A beautiful find from a rare culture. Size: 8" W x 7.15" H (20.3 cm x 18.2 cm)Chandraketugarh, located northeast of modern day Kolkata, was a large fortified settlement with high ramparts and wooden housing on both sides of the fortifications. Period III was the most prosperous period, when the level of pottery production seems to have been the finest - as well as the most influenced by contact with the Romans (or at least, their trade goods). Beginning in this period and continuing to ca. 650 CE, their pottery was bright, with intricate designs created by painting, stamping, incisions, molding, and appliqueing. Vases like this one were not handmade - they were made by specialists in an urban economy and were made for an urban, elite or at least middle-class clientele. The quality of this vase speaks to Chandraketugarh's place along the Indian Ocean trade routes and its cosmopolitan culture. Provenance: Ex-Private LA County collection acquired in the 1980's Condition: Damage to rim, with losses to half of it and the design worn away around the rest of it. Some more minor wear/damage to body but no cracks. All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. We ship worldwide and handle all shipping in-house for your convenience. #119060
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A large seated pottery figure, holding a massive bowl on his knees, with an expressive face and huge, staring eyes. The elongated form of his skull, capped by a tall headdress, may speak to a practice of skull shaping, known from other parts of the pre-Columbian New World. The figure here wears nothing but armbands, earrings, and his headdress, and has clearly visible genitalia. Size: 10.4" L x 8.25" W x 11.5" H (26.4 cm x 21 cm x 29.2 cm)West Mexican shaft tomb figures like this one derive their names from the central architectural feature that we know of from this culture. These people would build generally rectangular vertical shafts down from the ground level down to narrow horizontal tunnels that led to one or more vaulted or rounded burial chambers. The geomorphology in the area means that these chambers are dug out of tepetate, a type of volcanic tuff material, which give the chambers a rough-edged look. Although the dimensions of the chambers vary considerably - some only large enough to hold a single burial and its offerings, others seem designed to hold entire lineages - the placement of burial goods like this hollow figure was very similar. Grouped with other hollow figures, and alongside clay bowls, and boxes, they were positioned around the body (or bodies), near the skull. Unfortunately, we lack the information we would need to understand what these figures were made for - do they represent everyday people, even individuals? Are they religious? Were they created to mediate between the living and the dead? Whatever their purpose, today they are beautiful artwork and reminders of the mysterious past. Provenance: Ex-Berman collection acquired in the 1970's Condition: One leg has been reattached. There may be a loss to the front of the headdress, but it is not clear if that piece is meant to be flat or there was something broken off of it in the distant past. Some bright pigment remaining, and some manganese staining over the body. #118626
China, Han Dynasty, ca. 206 BCE to 220 CE. A wonderfully preserved example of a tomb attendant. Mold made, with details all the way around the body, this figure was made to stand inside of a tomb, waiting to assist the deceased in the afterlife. The figure is male, with long hair in a ponytail, painted black, and a cleanshaven face with strong details. He wears a long white robe with enormous sleeves, hiding any suggestion of hands. The robe has red borders and is particularly well detailed around the neck. Size: 6.3" W x 14" H (16 cm x 35.6 cm)Tomb attendants like this one are part of a class of artifacts called mingqi - sometimes known as "spirit utensils" or "vessels for ghosts". They became popular in the Han Dynasty and would persist for several centuries. Alongside figures like this one were musicians, athletes, animals, structures… Even though they were mass produced, mingqi of the Han Dynasty often show a high level of detail and naturalism. These were designed to assist the po, the part of the soul of the deceased that remained underground with the body while the hun, the other part of the soul, ascended. Caring for the po seems to have taken on a new level of meaning in the Han period, with more elaborate rituals and tomb construction arising. Provenance: Ex-S. Young Collection, New Hampshire Condition: Intact, with much remaining pigment. Signs of wear, root marks, and dirt encrustation over body. #118750

1964 Mercedes-Benz 220 SEB Coupe This lovely big Benz has had just four keepers from new, the first of whom retained it for 32 years. Fitted with the rarer four-speed manual floor change gearbox and sunroof, the vendor acquired it in 2015 and believes it had been kept rain-free since being restored and resprayed five years earlier. The Coupe is understood to have started life in Glasgow before spending an extended period in the Channel Islands. Earlier this year the vendor commissioned Classic Restorations of Alyth to carry out any remedial work they felt was required, the bill for which totalled £4,250. Finished in Black over Silver and trimmed in a very attractive shade of Red leather, 'BLR 829B' is now ready to be enjoyed by a new keeper and is being offered complete with: receipts dating back to 2000 and for the 2010 restoration that included work to the brakes, suspension and exhaust system, powder coated wheels, new tyres and radiator and fresh upholstery, headlining carpet and dash; plus a number of old MOTs and one valid to November 16 next year. Judging by the paperwork, the recorded mileage of 73,000 is almost certainly genuine. A fine example of period Mercedes-Benz engineering.Via the W111 'fintail' series of 1959, Mercedes continued its practice of offering special two-door Coupe or Roadster versions of its Saloon cars, and the 220SEB took this supreme elegance to a whole new level. Based on the flagship S-class W111 'fintail' Saloon, with its signature upright headlights and imposing traditional Mercedes-Benz grille, the Coupe comprised a light and airy pillarless glasshouse over a distinctive two-door body. The 220 Coupe was very well appointed inside, featuring Mercedes textured leather and wood trimmings. The model's 2195cc, SOHC engine employed mechanical fuel injection of the same type as the 'Pagoda' SLs - its 120bhp being sufficient to propel the car at up to 106mph. A total of some 14,173 220SEB Coupes were built between 1961 and 1965 when the run was terminated.
