A beautiful Gretsch ' Double Anniversary ' six string electric semi-hollow body electric guitar. Two tone tobacco sunburst colour, with chrome hardware. Model No.7560 and Serial No.26276 - this information on an orange Gretsch label inside the instrument. Mother of pearl inlaid fretboard and supplied within the original Gretsch hardcase. Rare guitar.
Motifs of flora, musician, woman, and children, with gilt decoration throughout both pieces. German porcelain teacup and saucer, central decoration of a Renaissance man playing a string instrument with woman and children in a pastoral setting. Extensive gilt and floral decorations, and gilt to rim of cup and plate, and to base of cup. Stamped in gilt to base with crown and R SAXE, possibly a mark of the Erdmann Schlegelmilch factory in Thuringia, Germany, a line also known as Royal Saxe. Issued: c. 1930 Dimensions: 2.25"H x 3.75"D cup, 5.5"D saucer Country of Origin: Germany Condition: Age related wear.
ELO USED MATHIAS NEUNER ANTIQUE CELLO. An antique cello by Mathias Neuner V (1832-1890) Mittenwald, Germany. Owned and used by Mike Edwards of ELO. Bears an ER Voigt & Sons label. Used on many recordings, gigs and appearances. Provenance to include: a signed letter from his brother detailing that the cello was passed on from Mike Edwards' father to Mike, a quantity of photographs showing Edwards with the instrument, a VHS with a recording of an ELO performance of 'Roll Over Beethoven', a copy of 'Beat Instrumental' magazine from 1972 with feature on Edwards in which he mentions the cello, a Star Monthly magazine showing Edwards on cover with the instrument. String length - approx 90cm.
A 19th century rosewood and marquetry inlaid music box. The brass cylinder playing eight Airs, the titles handwritten on a colour transfer printed sheet. Complete with silvered bells in line with gilt enamel decorated floral finials and butterfly strikers being flanked by drum and string instrument. All contained in a cross banded rosewood case, the lid with later central inlaid lozenge. Measures 25cms x 58cms x 30cms
Steen Nielsen Denmark (c1970’s) An unusual hammerspinet with one string per note and built with a 'harpsichord' stop that allows it to imitate a harpsichord sound in addition to a normal light piano tone. Length 4ft width 3ft 2in, in a Danish design rosewood case; together with a rosewood and leather stool. This instrument is sold with an Article 10 Certificate due to the nature of the case being constructed from Brazilian rosewood.
A grand piano by Broadwood, London, circa 1827 The figured mahogany case with cylinder front between carved bracket cheeks, raised on four turned legs. The interior of the rosewood veneered fall board decorated with floral brass inlay and bearing a boxwood plaque inscribed: Patent, John Broadwood & Sons, Makers to His Majesty & the Princesses, Great Pulteney Street, Golden Square, London. Six and a half octave keyboard CC-f4 with ivory naturals and ebony accidentals. English grand action. Two pedals, mounted on a lyre, controlling dampers and keyboard shift. The Patent on the nameboard refers to Patent No. 5485 registered by Broadwood on April 9th 1827. This instrument is constructed with the brass "string plate" and four iron bars of this patent. Serial number 11301 Length 250cm, width 125cm, case height including lid and leg blocks 39cm. Literature: The Colt Clavier Collection Golden Jubilee 1944-1981, recent additions, (55) G301B. Provenance: Entries for this piano have been found in the Broadwood Archive held at the Surrey History Centre: Sent out (on hire) 13th September 1827 and eventually sold 27th August 1835 to Mr. Webster. Purchased by Colt at Sotheby's 7th April 1982.
A JAPANESE IVORY OKIMONO MEIJI 1868-1912 Carved as a bijin holding a kokyu (string instrument), her kimono elaborately decorated with a pattern of swirls and leaves, signed Kogyoku to the base, 17.8cm. Provenance: purchased from Laura Bordignon on 8th November 2005. A copy of the original invoice is available.
Portuguese guitar by Joao Miguel Andrade, retailed by Voigt & Co. London with maple neck and walnut back and sides, 68cm long The instrument is generally good overall, with small dents and scratches and wear typical of age but nothing too severe. The soundboard has sunk slightly typically found from pressure on the bridge but the action of the instrument is not affected by this. One of the bone string retaining pins from the base of this instrument is missing. The tuning mechanism is lifting slightly from the headstock.
