The company announced her arrival in a full-page advert in 1927 in The Pottery Gazette. Burgess & Leigh had not made tube-lined pieces before Rhead joined the firm, but by March 1927 she had produced around fourteen new designs. Rhead's patterns were all numbered and a list of these designs remains in print.
An Art Deco Royal Cauldon table lamp designed by Edith Gater in the 'Orange Tree' design, circa 1935, impressed '561', otherwise unmarked, height excluding fitting 25cm high, sold together with an orange lamp shade.Notes: Edith Gater (nee Smith) worked alongside some of the most notable designers of the period, including Charlotte Rhead and Molly Hancock.Condition:There is a small crack to one of the upper corners. On the opposite side, there is a small white patch of some sort of residue. No other damages or repairs. Please see images.
CHARLOTTE RHEAD FOR CROWN DUCAL; a large blue and lilac floral decorated jug, a similar smaller example decorated with leaves and a ribbed baluster vase decorated with flowers, height of largest 25.5cm (af) (3).Condition Report: - The vase has a notable fracture from the top lip, running into the vase, approximately 6cm long. Further crazing visible throughout, with grubbing to the foot rim, and heavy staining to the interior. The smaller jug has rubbing to the gold-coloured bands to the foot rim and the top rim and ground into the handle. The large blue example has crazing visible throughout, grubbing to the foot rim and a couple of minor chips to the interior of the top rim. Again, heavily stained to the interior.
