JOSEP MARIA TAMBURINI DALMAU (Barcelona, 1856 - 1932)."Lady with a Flower".Pastel and charcoal on paper.Signed in the lower left corner.Published in the Ilustración Catalana.Size: 60,5 x 45 cm; 80 x 65 cm (frame). In this canvas Josep Maria Tamburini offers us a portrait halfway between the dreamlike and the real, starring a totally physical face, perfectly modelled on the basis of subtle tonal and light gradations, supported by a solid drawing. Around the melancholic face of the lady, the space blurs, as do her clothes, becoming delicate tulles that seem to float around her.A painter and art critic and a leading figure in Catalan modernism, Tamburini began his training at the Escuela de La Lonja in Barcelona, later completing his studies in Paris with L. Bonnat and in Rome. He collaborated as a draughtsman, art critic and poet with the magazine "L'Avenç", one of the most outstanding artistic publications in Catalonia at the turn of the century. He also wrote for "La Vanguardia". As a painter, he began his career in history painting and anecdotal realism, later evolving along the lines of symbolism, strongly influenced by English pre-Raphaelism. He achieved recognition in 1888, when he won a silver medal at the Universal Exhibition in Barcelona. He continued to take part in official exhibitions in Barcelona and Madrid, and was again awarded a prize at the Barcelona Exhibition in 1898, where he won the Queen Regent's Extraordinary Prize. In 1911 he was awarded the Prize of the King and Queen of Spain. As a mature painter, he worked on placidly fantastic, detailed and precious themes, as well as religious subjects and some portraits. He was also a member of the Board of Museums of Barcelona, advisor to the Academy of Fine Arts, teacher at the La Lonja School and co-founder of the Artistic and Literary Society of Catalonia (1911). He is represented in the MACBA, the National Art Museum and Library of Catalonia, the Royal Academy of Sant Jordi, the Casa Lis Museum in Salamanca and the Fine Arts Museums of Valencia and Seville, as well as in numerous private collections.

Caròla-Perrotti, Le Porcellane dei Borbone di Napoli, 1986, no 327Exhibited:Naples, Museo Archeologico Nazionale, 'Le Porcellane dei Borbone di Napoli: Capodimonte e Real Fabbrica Ferdinandea 1743-1806', 19 December 1986-30 April 1987Another cased service of a slightly later date was sold in these rooms, Collezione Fiordalisi, 7 December 2017, lot 50, and a tray with the same technique, lot 84, in the same sale. It is likely that the print sources for this service derives from the drawings of Naples and its surroundings made by the Abbé de Saint Non (Jean-Claude Richard de Saint-Non) for the Real Fabbrica some years earlier. When Domenico Venuti became director of the Naples factory in 1779, he broke radically with any lingering Rococo sentiments, and whole-heartedly embraced the new neo-classical style that was sweeping Europe. Often shapes and decorations in Naples were based on the archaeological finds and the large number of antiquities in the Royal Collections. The Royal services designed by Venuti often depict detailed views of Naples and surrounding areas as well as images of famous newly-excavated archaeological sites such as Herculaneum (1738) and Pompeii (1740), all discovered during the reign of Charles III, before his move to Madrid to become King of Spain. As Angela Caròla-Perrotti (1986) points out, the use of the archaeological views indicates a keen interest in measuring the potency of the current Kingdom to the wealth and riches of the Antique. For the landscape scenes the factory made use of the well known book Illustrations de Voyages pittoresques de Naples et de Sicile by Abbé de Saint Non, published in 1785. In addition to these well known images however, there are also many scenes taken after nature by the painters Berotti and Santucci during their work for the Neapolitan court service of landscapes called the Servizio delle Vestiture del Regno. This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: ** VAT on imported items at a preferential rate of 5% on Hammer Price and the prevailing rate on Buyer's Premium. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

Lot 105

RAFAEL ALBERTI (El Puerto de Santa María, Cádiz, 1902 - 1999).Untitled.Wax on paper.Slight damage to the frame.Signed in the lower right corner.Measurements: 30.5 x 20 cm; 45.5 x 34 cm (frame).Rafael Alberti was a writer and poet belonging to the Generation of '27, considered one of the greatest writers of the so-called Silver Age of Spanish literature. He received numerous prizes and awards, including the National Poetry Prize (1925), the Lenin de la Paz (1965), the National Theatre Prize (1980), the Cervantes Prize (1983) and the Roma Prize for Literature (1991). He renounced the other great Spanish literary award, the Prince of Asturias, because of his strong republican convictions. Rafael Alberti's first vocation was painting, but his real discovery of this art came in 1917, when he moved to Madrid with his family and visited the Prado Museum for the first time. He first exhibited his work in 1920 at the Salón de Otoño in Madrid, and two years later he exhibited at the Athenaeum in the same city. His painting was characterised by the fact that it was not his definitive path, since after the death of his father, he began to write his first verses. As a writer, Alberti enjoyed great success from the beginning of his career, but at first his success was linked to artistic prestige, as he was still financially dependent on his family. The new literary magazines accepted and wanted to publish his works. He was also beginning to make friends within the circle known today as the Generation of '27. He began to write in a style that was not only more formally demanding, but also allowed him to be more satirical and dramatic. From then on, his life gradually opened up to what would become the centre of his inspiration, poetry, without ever completely abandoning his vocation as a painter. Among his last works is A la pintura ('On Painting') (1945). These reflect his intellectual activity during his exile, as Alberti returned to painting and began a series of poems to bring together his thoughts on painting. A subject to which he continued to devote himself for many years. Among these poems dedicated to painting he wrote a series of sonnets on the retina, the hand, the canvas, the brush, etc.; a series of short poems in free verse on colours; and finally a series of poems in homage to various painters such as Titian, El Greco and others.

Lot 47

EDUARDO ARROYO (Madrid, 1937-2018)."Untitled".2004.Mixed media and collage on paper.Signed and dated in the lower area.Size: 31,5 x 22 cm; 44,5 x 36 cm (frame).Painter, sculptor and engraver, Arroyo stands out as an important figure within the neo-figurativist movement. A key figure in the new Spanish figuration, Arroyo came to prominence on the national art circuit only belatedly, from the 1980s onwards, after a two-decade-long period of withdrawal forced by the Franco regime. Today, his works hang in the most reputed Spanish museums and his creativity extends to theatrical scenographies and illustrated editions. Arroyo began his career in journalism, finishing his studies in 1957. He then left for Paris, fleeing the stifling Spanish political climate of the time. Although his first vocation was as a writer, a task he continues to pursue to this day, by 1960 he was already making a living as a painter. That year he took part for the first time in the Salon de Peinture Jeunesse in Paris. His critical attitude towards dictatorships, both political and artistic, led him to take controversial initiatives. He opted for figurative painting at a time when abstract painting was overwhelmingly dominant in Paris, and his early themes were reminiscent of "black Spain" (effigies of Philip II, bullfighters, dancers), worked in a caustic and unromantic manner. At the beginning of the 1960s his plastic vocabulary moved under the American influence of pop art, and in 1964 his break with informal art became definitive. His first public impact came in 1963, when he presented a series of effigies of dictators at the Third Paris Biennial, which provoked protests from the Spanish government. That same year, Arroyo prepared an exhibition at the Biosca gallery in Madrid, which opened without his presence as he had to flee to France, pursued by the police; the exhibition was censored and closed a few days later. However, Arroyo's figurative option was slow to be accepted in Paris. The painter rejected the unconditional devotion to certain avant-gardists, such as Duchamp or Miró, which he considered imposed by fashions. His real interest was in demystifying the great masters and defending the role of the market as a protector and thermometer of art, as opposed to the network of museums and influences paid for with public money. In 1974, Arroyo was expelled from Spain by the regime, and would not recover his passport until Franco's death. However, his critical breakthrough in Spain was not immediate, and was delayed until the early 1980s. In 1982 he was awarded the Premio Nacional de Artes Plásticas, and anthological exhibitions were held at the Biblioteca Nacional in Madrid and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. Arroyo is currently represented at the Museo Nacional Reina Sofía in Madrid, the Patio Herreriano in Valladolid, the Museo de Bellas Artes in Bilbao, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington D.C. and the Museo de Arte Moderno in Lille (France), among others.

JOAN PONÇ BONET (Barcelona, 1927 - Saint-Paul, France, 1984)."Untitled", 1947.Oil on paper.Signed and dated on the back.Size: 65.5 x 50 cm; 89 x 74 cm (frame). This seminal work in Joan Ponç's artistic career condenses the revolutionary impetus of the young artist into a motley composition. Dated 1947, this was a key year for Ponç, who was at the crest of the avant-garde wave in Franco's Catalonia. He had just founded the magazine Algol, the embryo of what would become the magazine Dau al Set (1948). In this work on paper, the influence of Miró can be seen, but at the same time, there are already creations born out of Ponç's boisterous imagination.A painter and draughtsman, he trained in Barcelona, in the studio of Ramón Rogent and at the Academy of Plastic Arts with Ángel López-Obrero. After devoting himself to painting and drawing in anonymity, he held his first individual exhibition in 1946 at the Galería Arte in Bilbao, which was to be his definitive establishment on the national art scene. In 1948, together with Tharrats, Puig, Cuixart, Tàpies and Brossa, among others, he founded the avant-garde group Dau al Set. Selected by Eugenio D'Ors, he took part in the Salón de los Once in Madrid in 1951 and 1952. In 1952 he took part in the Hispano-American Biennial, and the following year he spent some time in Paris, where he met Joan Miró and managed to exhibit at the Musée de la Villa. On the latter's recommendation, Ponç gained access to Brazilian artistic circles, settling in São Paulo from 1953 to 1962. In 1954, the year of the dissolution of Dau al Set, he held an exhibition at the city's Museum of Modern Art, which was so successful that the organisation acquired all his works. In Brazil he visited the equatorial jungles, where he was impressed by their fauna, especially insects, which he incorporated into his imagery. In 1955 he founded the Taüll group with Marc Aleu, Modest Cuixart, Jaume Guinovart, Jaume Muxart, Mercadé, Tàpies and Tharrats. After returning to Catalonia due to illness, as a fully established artist he shows his work in New York, Rio de Janeiro, Bonn, Paris, Frankfurt, Geneva, Antibes and various Spanish cities. In 1965 he won the International Grand Prize for Drawing at the São Paulo Biennial. Ponç's paintings present phantasmagoric images that are both painful and tortured, in which the subconscious is the protagonist. For the painter, art is nothing more than an introduction to the mystery and secrets of the spirit. More of a draughtsman than a painter, his work is extremely detailed and meticulous. Ponç's production can be divided into six periods: the Dau al Set period (1947), the Brazilian period (1958), the metaphysical-geometric period (1969), the period of the metaphysical characters (1970), the acupainting period (1971) and a final period of synthesis (1972). One of the most singular and enigmatic painters in the history of modern art, Ponç painted in order to survive the world, and turned each of his creations into a magical act. His trajectory describes a circular path over the years, almost without evolution, if we understand as such the change from one language to another, the variation of styles, the transformation of the unknowns that led him to paint. Ponç was a painter-poet, who used his brushes to discover the only world he knew, the most real of all, the world that lies in the depths of his own being. It is a world inhabited by strange creatures with half-human, half-animal bodies, by demons who make us participants in their actions, by deserted spaces in which symmetrical mounds, craters in a line, Stygian lagoons under dark skies broken only by the glow of coloured moons stand out. He is currently represented at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de la Universidad de São Paulo, the Museo Patio Herreriano in Valladolid, the MACBA in Barcelona, the Centro-Museo Vasco de Arte Contemporáneo in Vitoria, among others.

adidas, UEFA Champions League Final 2022 Kick-off Ball, Liverpool FC v Real Madrid CF, played at Stade de France, Saint-Denis on 28th May 2022, pure white hexagonal panels symbolising truce and unity with silver stars bearing black borders, bearing adidas and UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE logos framing МИР Peace emblem and printed with match details The design of the ball is deliberately paired back with a message for peace with the Cyrillic word "МИР", which can be translated as peace sitting above the word PEACE. The ball represents a message of "peace, belonging and hope" that will be passed from player to player during the match. The ball was used for the kick-off. The first time it went out of play, it was then collected up by the ball boy and given to the venue match director (who signed the certificate). Each of the ball boys and girls had a replacement ball (standard practice as 12 balls are in circulation during a match) and was briefed on what would be happening so the change could be made for another ball. It was then taken back to their office and transferred to adidas on site. Graham Budd Auctions joins adidas and UEFA to facilitate the historic auction of the Champions League Final 2022 Kick-off ball, coined the Peace ball, with all proceeds going to UNHCR, the United Nations refugee agency which supports those who have been forced to flee their homes. This unique, single lot auction coincides with World Refugee Day, 20th June 2022.

Madrid school, ca.1900. Following 19th century models."Virgin of the Dove".Oil on canvas, on wooden support.Good state of conservation.Measurements: 100 x 80,5 cm; 127,5 x 108 cm (frame). The Virgen de la Paloma is a Marian devotion typical of the city of Madrid, and its image is in the centre of the altarpiece of the parish of the Virgen de la Paloma and San Pedro el Real. According to the report written in 1791 by the mayor of Madrid, the Marquis of Casa García Postigo, the canvas, a representation of Our Lady of Solitude, was found or given to some children on a plot of land next to Calle de la Paloma in 1787. The work was then recovered by Isabel Tintero, who cleaned and framed it and placed it in the doorway of her house. Several miracles were soon attributed to the image, and its cult spread rapidly, and in 1795 a chapel was built to house it. The one presented here is a faithful copy of the original canvas, which shows Mary with a gesture of grief, dressed in mourning and adorned with a silver crown.

Andalusian School, Circle of JUAN MARTÍNEZ MONTAÑÉS (Alcalá la Real, Jaén, 1568 - Seville, 1649); 17th century."Infant Jesus".Carved and polychrome pine wood. The right foot has been restored. It has faults in the carving.Measurements: 46 x 14 x 13 cm.Round sculpture representing the Baby Jesus, the figure is naked, with articulated arms, which indicates that it is a figure conceived to dress, which were very popular during the Baroque period. This work is stylistically related to the Spanish Baroque, revealing a special influence of the great master of the Sevillian sculptural school of the 17th century, Juan Martínez Montañés. The material preferred by Montañés was always polychrome wood, with the collaboration of great painters, including Francisco Pacheco, Velázquez's master. He enjoyed great fame and popularity, becoming known in Seville as "the god of wood" and in Madrid as "the Andalusian Lysippus". His art, which he passed on to his pupils in his studio, was inspired above all by the natural, sometimes showing more classicist characteristics than Baroque ones. Towards the end of his career, however, he evolved towards a fully Baroque realism. Formally, the classical elegance and harmony, the basis of Baroque works with a mountain influence, stand out. It is, above all, a fully naturalistic work, idealised in terms of the subject matter, but highly realistic and expressive. In the Sevillian environment, the 17th century was a period of enormous economic and, therefore, artistic boom.
