WW2 RAF Pilots Logbook & Badges. This small group of items represent the early flying career of Flying Officer James Leyburn Murphy, who is believed to flown operationally with 161 Special Duties Squadron. Comprising: Pilots logbook, this covering a period January 1942 to September 1943. This log records training only. ... RAF Pilot Wings.... Uniform Medal ribbons. .... Copy photographs of F/O Murphy in uniform. Overall GC . Flying Officer James Leyburn Murphy volunteered for the RAF and entered Cosford on the 15th March 1940. Volunteering for Pilot training he first flew with 10 EFTS in January 1942. Posted to Rhodesia as part of the Empire Training Scheme he returned to the UK in August 1943. His log finishes about here, with the second log which would have recorded operational flying absent. Accompanying basic research supplied with the group from the family indicates that he flew operationally with 161 Special Duties Squadron which was responsible for SOE operations and supply drops over occupied Europe.

George V silver piecrust presentation salver, presented to Capt A. M. O. J. Lloyd 24th Regt by the Officers of the 1/1st Brecknockshire Battn (S. W. B) On the Occasion of His Marriage January 1916. Initial to the reverse RB for Sir Richard Burbridge chairman of Harrods, London 1915. 36cm diameter approximately. 40 troy oz approximately. (B.P. 21% + VAT) Rather worm, scratched and grubby to the top although the text is very clear and legible. Good clear hallmarks to the reverse but there is tarnishing and wear throughout although the salver appears complete with no obvious losses.
A Georgian diamond crowned heart ring set in 18ct gold with engraved shoulders. Ring size O. Approx weight 5.6 grams. (B.P. 21% + VAT) Settings need some attention but stones do not appear to be loose. There are brown marks either behind or within centre stones, this could be due to incisions or the foil back breaking down. Colour and clarity cannot be assessed due to the nature of the closed back foil setting. Maker J.M.B - stamped 18c.
A set of eight Danish rosewood dining chairs, probably Indian rosewood, manufactured by JL Møller circa 1960, designed by Niels O Møller, model 79, each chair with an angled rail back over and upholstered seat, raised upon cylindrical tapering legs, makers stamp to the underside of the chairs, 78cm high (8) Condition reportAll chairs with little or no play in the joints, four chairs have extensive stains to the seats the other four with lighter stains. One chair has a hole in the seat to the underside 4cm long with some minor loss of foam.General light wear and sun fading to the chair frames, five of the chairs with light paint marks to the rear of the frames. Otherwise light general wear commensurate with age and use.
An early 20th century 18ct gold half hunter pocket watch, London 1925, circular white dial with Roman numeral markers and subsidiary seconds dial, inscribed 'J.W.Benson London', enamelled chapter ring to cover, the movement inscribed 'The Field Best London Make N6196' and 'J.W.Benson 62 & 64 Ludgate Hill London', case 52mm diameter, suspended on a 9ct gold chain, 24.8cm long, gross weight 121.0gms, complete in fitted case CR; Dial: Good order. All numbers and lettering is in good order. There is a hairline crack running over the 1 'o' clock mark, about 1cm wide. There is moderate scratching to the glass, but no chips, fractures or losses. Outer case shows moderate scratching and wear, enamelled decoration shows some minor losses and wear, but is largely in good order, with no splits, large dents or signs of repair. Inner dust cover is hallmarked 18ct gold, and has no inscriptions. Some large scratches around the lip of the back cover, dust cover and pendant. All covers open smoothly and close with a snap, sitting flush.The watch winds, and ticks when wound. Watch weighs 105.2gms. Chain weighs 15.7gms.
