The Impressive Second World War Far East Order of the British Empire Group of Twelve for Service in both World Wars with a Maximum Campaign Star Entitlement, The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, O.B.E. (Military) Officers 2nd type breast badge in silver-gilt, British War medal, LIEUT W.B. BROWNE R.N.R., Mercantile Marine War medal, WILLIAM B BROWNE, Victory medal, LIEUT W.B. BROWNE R.N.R., 1939-45 star, Atlantic star, Africa star with clasp North Africa 1941-42, Pacific star, Italy star, Defence medal, War medal 1939-45, Coronation medal 1953. London Gazette 11th June 1946 – The KING has been graciously pleased to give orders for the following promotions in, and appointments to, the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, for distinguished services during the war in the Far East Captain William Brunswick Browne, Master, R.F.A. Born on 28th September 1894, William Brunswick Browne enlisted into the Royal Navy Reserve in March 1916 as a Temporary Sub-Lieutenant with his first appointment in Pyramus. His record indicates he was on board the P&O liner Arabia when she was sunk by UB43 in the Mediterranean in November 1916. Between December 1916 and May 1918 he was on board the Q-ship H.M.S. Dunclutha as 1st Lieutenant and Gunnery Officer. He was lent to the Armed Merchant Cruiser H.M.S. Marmora on 22nd July 1918 and was on board when she was sunk by 2 torpedoes from UB64 off the south coast Of Ireland on the following day 23rd July. Browne was demobilized on 24th August 1918. During the Second World War, Captain Browne was the Master of the fast tanker R.F.A. Wave Monarch and was awarded the OBE for his services in winding up operations in the Far East. Second World War campaign entitlement confirmed on the Merchant Navy medal card.

WW1 Identity Disc Groupings, consisting of a group of five fibre discs of 930802 B LETTS RFA; pair of fibre tags & religious medal o 527867 W R C WILLIS RAMC; grouping of four tags for a private A Endacott Loyal North Lancashire regiment / Devon regiment; grouping of four belonging to 20961 J E Cullum Army Cyclist Corps; grouping of four fibre discs for PTE W GUNN 26666 2/4 R.W.K; brass plaque stamped J F CLARKE L M F376 R.N.A.S and copper tag stamped PTE T WARD 26307 5. W. RIDING TRANSPORT SECT. All generally good condition.
Imperial German Playing Cards, interesting cased set of playing cards titled “Deutsche Kriegs-Spielkarte”, set consists of hearts, leaves (clubs), acorns (diamonds) and balloons of silver (spades), the cards go from 7-10 and then U O K D. All the cards have a different illustration of either a Imperial state, military personality or member of the nobility and military scene. Produced by Spielkartenfabrik Altenburg S.A. Some wear but generally good condition. Top lid of the box is detached but present.
Great War Military Cross Winners 1914-15 Star Medal, West Kent Yeomanry and Royal Artillery, medal awarded to “553 SJT O. HILTON W. KENT YEO”. Complete with ribbon and in good overall condition. Oscar Hilton served in Gallipoli from 7th October 1915. Commissioned into the Royal Artillery in February 1917 he was awarded a Military Cross, London Gazette 14/12/17 with the citation appearing in the London Gazette 23/4/1918, “2nd Lt. Oscar Hilton. R.F.A. , Spec Res. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in getting four guns of his battery in position under the worst possible conditions of wind and weather, and carrying up a supply of ammunition for them under heavy shell fire. On the same night, under heavy shell fire, he ran forward and extinguished a fire that had broken out under one of the gun-pits.” Captain Oscar Hilton died at home 3 days after the armistice on 14/11/1918 and is buried in Abney Park Cemetery in Stoke Newington, North London.
