An old European cut diamond, four claw set to the centre, with rose cut diamond set claws and an old European cut diamond rub set to each side. A cushion cut sapphire, rub set in a plain collet above and below, with open petal shaped surrounds, decorated with pairs of polished beads. Attributed to Claude-Joseph Vernet (1714-1789), bodycolour - A man o' war and other shipping off a Mediterranean coastline with elegant figures on the shore, signed with initials and dated 'CJV 1752' (lower left), 18cm x 36cm, and another of a Mediterranean fortified harbour by the same hand, in glazed frames (2) Both works on paper. In generally good condition. Although not examined out of the frames, they do not appear to be fully stuck down. The larger work has a tear to the mount. Several scuffs and marks to both frames.
