Early Muromachi period 14th century. Illustrated and described in Japanese, English and German in 'Tsuba' by Günther Heckmann, H.U.B. Verlag Nürtingen, 1995. No. T2.The Tsuba, the guard of the Japanese sword, has always been considered one of the most esteemed possessions of a warrior. For both, the humble foot soldier as well as the high ranked Samurai, the tsuba was of great significance.
