Early Muromachi period 14th century. Illustrated and described in Japanese, English and German in 'Tsuba' by Günther Heckmann, H.U.B. Astronomie - - Johann Heinrich Lambert. Insigniores Orbitae Cometarum proprietates. Mit 2 Tabellen u. 2 gefalt. gestoch. Tafeln. Augsburg, Eberhard Klett, 1761. 3 Bll., 128 S. 8°. HLdr. d. Zt. mit goldgepr. RSchild (berieben, bestoßen, Rücken mit Fehlstellen). Brüning 1773. - Brunet III, 11. - Hind 215. - Struve 52Lit.: O. Volk. Johann Heinrich Lambert and the Determination of Orbits for Planets and Comets, in: Celestial Mechanics, 21 (1980), S. 237-250. - Bauschinger in: Ostwald's Klassiker d. exakten Wiss. Nr. 133. - Vord fl. Vorsatz mit Besitzeintrage (Luigi Gabba), Titel verso mit mont. gestoch. Bibliotheks-Exlibris (Phelip.), papierbedingt leicht gebräunt, Vorsätze u. angrenzende Blätter etwas leimschattig, tls. braunfleckig. Astronomy - With 2 tables and 2 folded engraved plates. Contemp. half calf with gilt stamped label to spine (rubbed, bumped, spine with missing parts). - In the "Insigniores" Lambert introduces the method for the determination of comets for the case of parabolic orbits on the basis of three astronomical observations. This method was brought into its final form by W. Olbers in 1797. In the first part Lambert states general theorems about the parabola, in the second part about the "most important properties of the parabolic motion of comets" he demonstrates the four laws of motion of celestial bodies moving around the sun, including planets and comets. The fourth part is about the nature of the elliptical orbits of comets and planets and leads to the general Lambert theorem. - Front free endpaper with ownership inscription (Luigi Gabba), title verso with mounted engraved library bookplate (Phelip.), slightly browned due to paper, endpapers and adjacent leaves somewhat shaded with glue, some brownspotting.

Italien - - Francisco Sanz Moreno. - Marmor. Vorsätze, gebräunt, wenige Unterstreichungen, letztes Blatt mit hs. Vermerk. With armorial title woodcut, woodcut initials and book decoration. Late 19th cent. with spine gilt and gilt-stamped title to spine (rubbed). - Extremely rare report on the eruption of Vesuvius in 1631. The eruption began on 16 December 1631 and reached its peak the day after. Although the most famous eruption of Vesuvius, which destroyed the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum, occurred in 79 AD, the mountain has a long history of eruptions both before and after that date. On this day in 1631, another major eruption of Vesuvius occurred, burying many villages under lava flows. On the second day, there was an even bigger eruption that continued for the next few days, albeit with decreasing intensity. What many people do not know is that this eruption triggered a tsunami, the waves of which hit the land three times, damaging and destroying many boats on the coast. About 4000 people lost their lives in this eruption and the summit of Vesuvius was reduced by 450 metres. - Furchheim 168: Molto Raro. - Copy with engraved bookplate from the library of Feliciano Ramirez de Arellano, Marques de la Fuensanta del Vale. - Marbled endpapers, browned, few underlinings, last leaf with a written note.
