Sent by the author, Ferdinand Otto Miksche, to General Heinz Guderian, a WWII Second World War German general and pioneer of the 'Blitzkrieg' approach. Nazi leader Adolf Hitler appointed Guderian as Inspector General to the Armoured Forces in 1943 during the Third Reich. He surrendered to U.S. forces in May 1945, and became a memoirist following the war.Guderian annotated this work in 1949: featuring his annotations in German to the margins, as well as a dedication in German, his signature and date to the front free endpaper. Fourth impression, Faber and Faber Limited, complete in worn dust wrapper with loss to the edges and extremities and tape repairs to the spine, which has some loss.An unusual piece of military history regarding Second World War tactics. Ferdinand Otto Miksche was a Lt Colonel in the French Amy and the holder of the French Legion D'honneur. Born in Austria he became and Officer in the Czech Army and in 1945 the Czech Military attache in Paris. He spent time in England with De Gaulle at the time of establishing the Free French Forces. He returned to France with De Gaulle and became a French citizen and the Lt Colonel on the Foreign Legion. Miksche spent 8 years in Portugal in the 1950s and received their highest honour (Order of the Portuguese Empire) for his work teaching in the Military academy in Caxias. In later years he was a frequent guest on German TV and became a liason attache to Strauss and the Bavarian Government.

To include German and English works including 1979 'Bis 2000' (Seewald Verlag Stuttgart), 'Danubian Federation' (n.d., published not stated, uncommon), 'Atomwaffen und Streitkrafte' (n.d., Verlag Westunion), 'The Failure of Atomic Strategy' (n. d., Frederick A. Praeger), and 1945 'Atomic Weapons and Armies' (Faber and Faber Ltd.). Including a heavily annotated first edition (board lacking) of 'War Between Continents' by Miksche and E. Combaux, presumably this copy annotated to create the later second edition, with typed paper inserts, slips and annotations. Miksche, being 1944 'Thoughts on War' (Faber and Faber), 1941 'Dynamic Defence' (Faber and Faber Limited) complete in dust wrapper, 1936 'The War in Outline' (Faber and Faber Limited) complete in smart dust wrapper, inscribed 1953, and 1935 'Infanterie von Morgen' (Ludwig Boggenreiter Verlag). Complete with signed glazed photograph of Sir Basil Henry Liddell Hart dedicated to Miksche. Ferdinand Otto Miksche (1904-1992) was a Czech Captain and military historian, awarded the Medal of Freedom and Order of the Colonial Empire, and the author of a number of works on European military history. His friendship with Liddell Hart last until the latter's death in 1970. Despite his military theories and histories, Liddell Hart is perhaps better remembered for his biography of Lawrence of Arabia.(5)

He completed over 170 war operations before he was killed in action at the age of 26. Air Vice Marshal James Edgar Johnson, CB., CBE., DSO. & Two Bars, DFC, & Bar, DL. (1915-2001) nicknamed Johnnie, was an English Royal Airforce pilot and the highest scoring Western Allied fighter ace against the German Luftwaffe. Johnson served in the Korean War before retiring in 1966 with the rank of Air Vice Marshal.Wing Commander John Robert Baldwin, DSO. & Bar, DFC. & Bar, AFC.
