Teofilo Patini (Castel di Sangro, 1840 - Napoli, 1906) Lunga attesa olio su tela cm 137x202 Firmato in basso a sinistra “T. Patini”. Firmato al telaio “T.Patini – Lunga attesa” Datato al telaio “1886” Al retro della tela si rileva la dichiarazione di autenticità a firma del critico d’arte e storico dell’arte specializzato in dipinti dell’Ottocento italiano Michele Biancale “Opera originale di T. Patini”. Provenienza: Collezione Privata in Palermo. I tre soggetti sono raffigurati nelle prime luci dell'alba. Per ognuno di essi vi è "un'attesa". La giovane moglie del malato (che è fuori campo) riposa su una sedia, adagiando il capo sul cuscino dopo una lunga notte al capezzale del marito. Patini ci trasmette due sentimenti diversi e contrastanti in quelli che si vuole immaginare i due anziani genitori: la rassegnazione e la fede. La prima traspare dal volto del vecchio canuto, che si abbandona scorato sulla sedia consapevole che la vita del figliolo si sta per spegnere al pari delle poche braci che ancora ardono nel camino al suo fianco. L'artista contrappone dipingendola nell'ombra, nell'atto di accendere una candela votiva ad un'immagine appena visibile sul muro sbrecciato, la moglie e in lei la speranza della fede, ultima ancora di salvezza cui l'anziana genitrice si affida con una preghiera. L’opera, fin da subito attribuita a Patini, è stato sottoposto a intervento di pulitura che ha rivelato chiara firma “T. Patini” nella porzione in basso a sinistra della tela. Ad un’analisi approfondita alla lampada di Wood, la firma si conferma coeva alla stesura originaria. La pratica di occultamento della firma è riconducibile all'adesione del Patini alla Libera Muratoria avversa al fascismo e all'interesse dell'artista nei confronti della Questione Meridionale, sfociata negli anni Ottanta in una produzione caratterizzata da toni bruni e soggetti a sfondo sociale e in netto contrasto con la moda parigina introdotta in Italia dalla Maison Goupil. L’attribuzione a Teofilo Patini appare confermata anche dall’analisi stilistica che consente un’allocazione cronologica sull’ultimo scorcio dell’Ottocento. Si veda a confronto l’opera “Pulsazioni e palpiti” realizzata da Patini nel 1870 e oggi conservata presso la Pinacoteca Patiniana di Castel di Sangro, o le sue varianti attualmente nelle Collezioni d’Arte dell’Amministrazione Provinciale dell’Aquila (cm 121x151) e in collezioni private in L’Aquila e Napoli. Ad avvalorare l’attribuzione per stilemi grafici e stilistici, si prenda in esame l’opera del Patini “Testa di vecchio” del 1882 battuta in asta da Galleria Pananti nel 2013.

Quattro gambe sagomate terminanti ad artiglio che ghermisce una sfera. Piano superiore a becco di civetta ebanizzato con gueridon a guantiera. Filettato e intarsiato in acero con decorazione romboidale centrale e gigli angolari. Piano inferiore che cela scarabattolo interno composto da tre cassetti e quattro scomparti sagomati e ebanizzati, divisi da de montanti ebanizzati. Filettato e intarsiato in acero con stemma nobiliare.
