Historia Maioris Britanniae, tam Angli[a]e q[uam] Scoti[a]e, 1st ed., [Paris], Venundatur Iodoco Badio Ascensio, [col:] Ex officina Ascensiana ad Idus Aprilis 1521, printer's woodcut device on the title-page, woodcut arms of Scotland on the title-page verso, numerous crible woodcut initials, closed tears in the title-page repaired, some soiling and staining in the text, some leaves of sig. o misplaced, but all present, 18th century vellum, a little soiled, 8vo. First edition of Major's history of Greater Britain, in which the separate histories of England and Scotland are brought together. "Written in a Sorbonic and barbarous style, yet very truly and with great liberty of spirit ...": Wood's Athen. Oxon. John Major (1469-1550) spent a number of years in Paris, first as a student and later as professor of scholastic philosophy. In 1519 he returned to Scotland to become professor of theology at St. Andrews, where his students included George Buchanan and John Knox. His History contains a suggestion that Scotland would have much to gain from a union with England, and an early mention of the legend of Robin Hood. Adams M228. (1)

An Auctioneer's catalogue dated 29th July 1924, to include 49 lots o farms, accommodation from The Marquis of Butes Glamorgan Estate, a volume outlining 'Arbitration between the Colliery owners in the Pontypridd Union Assessment Area and the Assessment Committee and others in the matter of The RAting of Collieries in the said area, January 1927, together with other books and cigarette cards.
RADO-a ladies DiaStar gold plated wrist watch, the square face with circular gilt dial, paste point set dial and date aperture positioned to 3 o clock, fitted to original tapered gold plated bracelet. Together with a gold plated Gucci ladies wrist watch, the circular head with green and red detail, white dial and Roman numerals, fitted to a brown lather strap, also with a 9ct manual wind Rotary ladies wrist watch, the silvered dial with gold coloured baton markers, 17 jewels incabloc movement fitted to an associated 9ct link bracelet with fold over clasp, (3). All three watches are overall in good condition, there are general surface scratches. The Rotary also has a few small marks to the dial and fitted with plastic glass. The Gucci shows a little wear to the bracelet. The Rotary is currently in working order, the Rado and Gucci are currently not in working order. The Reaper and The Flowers, after Louis Auguste Malempre, Copeland, for The Ceramic and Crystal Palace Art Union, published 1875, as an angel upholding a sleeping child, impressed title to the front, impressed factory and "A75", incised "L A Malempre Sc 1875", 58.5cm high This figure is illustrated in Copeland (Robert) Parian, Copeland's Statuary Porcelain, Antique Collectors Club, p.119, where it is described as being named after the last verse of Longfellow's poem of that name which accompanied the original marble sculpture; this was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1874. Longfellow tries to dispel the notion that death is inevitably a fearsome thing by emphasising that flowers amidst the "bearded grain". The last verse reads: "O, not in cruelty, not in wrath, the Reaper came that day; twas an angel visited the green earth, and took the flowers away".
