A good Yokohama porcelain Plate, c.1885, well painted in enamels and gilding with sparrows flying above an unrolled scroll, a Buddhist sutra stand and a samisen below flowering prunus, the notched rim with black and gold clouds, the reverse with three gilt ho-o, red fan mark, Nihon Yokohama Imura sei, 21.5cm CONDITION REPORT: No obvious faults.
A good 'Satsuma' Vase, c.1870, of square section and after a Chinese Wanli bronze, the facets well decorated with a winged dragon amongst clouds and waves, the reverse with addorsed ho-o, between chrysanthemums growing from a banded fence or peony and bamboo, between false gadroon borders, traces of mark, 25cm The chrysanthemums growing from a banded fence, most commonly seen on Kakiemon porcelain and copied at the early English factories, feature in a poem by the Chinese Six Dynasties poet Tao Qian (365-427). The poem reads: 'I pluck chrysanthemums by the Eastern fence, And see the distant Southern Mountains'. CONDITION REPORT: A small part of gilt character mark remaining, along with blue shimazu mon. otherwise no obvious faults.
A cloisonné Censer, c.1880, the depressed globular body with addorsed ho-o, shi-shi and dragons amongst scrolling lotus, fuku mark, typical wear, 19cm CONDITION REPORT: Small open section on left hand handle, where body and cloisonné are separated, this is visible on main image. The rim with some small nicks, gilding rubbed.
A good pair of bronze Vases, late 19th century, each ovoid body cast in low relief with archaic ho-o, shi-shi and scrolls beneath chilong bordered panels on a disc base supported on five dragons and a base with a further chilong, cast mark, 14.5cm (2) CONDITION REPORT: One vase with repaired 14cm crack and smaller repaired splits to base of body. Other vase has no obvious faults.
A large and attractive Gouache Painting, possibly 18th century, of a ho-o with bright peacock-colour feathering and red comb, standing one-legged on a rock amongst waves, its head turned back to peer at the setting sun, damaged areas replaced, 87 x 113cm CONDITION REPORT: Colours faded, Small repair mark to left of ho-o's crest, Crease marks throughout.
