VERDI GIUSEPPE: (1813-1901) Italian Composer. A.L.S., G. Verdi, one page, 8vo, n.p. (Paris), n.d.(1856?), to Leon [Escudier], in Italian. Verdi writes to his French Editor, in full ´Would you make me the pleasure of coming to meet me tomorrow morning about 9 o´clock. I need to make copies right away and in few hours, five or six musical pages´. Some light, minor staining to each edge, caused by previous mounting, only very slightly affecting one letter of text but not the signature, otherwise VG. £1000-1500 Leon Escudier (1821-1881) French Journalist, Critic and Publisher of Verdi´s works in Paris. Escudier helped to establish Verdi's reputation across Europe. Verdi's letter most likely dates from 1856 and the musical pages to which he refers would therefore be associated with his opera La Traviata, which premiered on 6th December 1856 in Paris.

SKORZENY OTTO: (1908-1975) Austrian SS-Standartenführer of World War II. T.L.S., Otto Skorzeny, two pages, 4to, Madrid, 17th April 1972, to Miguel Rojas Martin-More, in Spanish. The letter is Skorzeny's retained carbon copy and concerns an employee of Skorzeny's, Jose Gonzalez Haro, a gardener, with whom Skorzeny has not been satisfied, in terms of the work that he has done, and questioning whether or not he really has to pay him the full salary for a period of three months. Together with a second T.L.S., with his initials O Sk., one page, 4to, Madrid, 10th May 1972, also to Miguel Rojas Martin-More, in Spanish. The letter is another retained carbon copy on the same subject matter. Also including several other carbon copies of related letters. All are stapled together at the upper left corner and have multiple file holes to the left edge, not affecting the text or signatures. Further including four signed blank folio sheets of paper, with different names, by Skorzeny. Each with a different printed heading, the first "Dipl.Ing. Otto Skorzeny, Madrid" and the three others being "Dipl. Ing. Rolf O. Steinbauer, Madrid". Skorzeny using his two different identities signs (`Otto Skorzeny´) and (`Rolf O. S Steinbauer´), in blue ink to the lower right borders. Four blank signed documents left to his wife to be used in case of necessity. The Skorzeny signature one with creases to the corners, not affecting the signature. Further more including a small selection of other letters and printed ephemera etc., relating to Skorzeny, some signed by his wife Ilse, a small printed 8vo World Health Organisation Vaccination Card issued in Spain to Otto Skorzeny and bearing his name, 1965, a brown leather wallet etc..
