VERDI GIUSEPPE: (1813-1901) Italian Composer. A.L.S., G. Verdi, one page, 8vo, n.p. (Paris), n.d.(1856?), to Leon [Escudier], in Italian. Verdi writes to his French Editor, in full ´Would you make me the pleasure of coming to meet me tomorrow morning about 9 o´clock. I need to make copies right away and in few hours, five or six musical pages´. Some light, minor staining to each edge, caused by previous mounting, only very slightly affecting one letter of text but not the signature, otherwise VG. £1000-1500 Leon Escudier (1821-1881) French Journalist, Critic and Publisher of Verdi´s works in Paris. Escudier helped to establish Verdi's reputation across Europe.
[HITLER ADOLF]: (1889-1945) Fuhrer of the Third Reich 1934-45. Facsimile T.L.S., A Hitler, one page, oblong 8vo correspondence card, Berlin, April 1943, on Hitler's gold printed stationery featuring his name beneath a Nazi swastika and eagle. The brief text, in German, sends thanks for the intended recipient's greetings on Hitler's birthday. About EX £200- £300 Provenance: Accompanied by a copy of a statement of origin signed by Richard O. Rex stating that he personally removed the correspondence card from the Reich Chancellery in Berlin in July 1945 after having been flown in to help establish a medical dispensary for use during The Potsdam Conference. Also signed by a Notary Public as a witness. Together with copies of further supporting detailed documentation relating to Rex and his acquisitions.

A mixed group of ceramic items comprising: a cheese dish with lid, loop handle, floral border; two white-glazed jars for oil and vinegar, marked 'O' and 'V' respectively; a squat vase with lustre glazed mouth and rim; a cream-glazed figurine of two stylised figures embracing; a narrow-necked jar with cream and blue splashed slip; a miniature jar with frone decoration; a white-glazed milk jug with flowers and fruit, marked to the underside 'Made in England / Heathcote China / Best Bone'. 2 kg total, 7.5-17cm (3 - 6 3/4"). Property of a retired Harwich collector. [8, No Reserve] Fine condition.

A silver-gilt finger ring with panels to the shoulders, tapering bezel with inset glazed composition plaque with profile bust. 4.86 grams, 25mm overall, 17.56mm internal diameter (approximate size British O, USA 7 1/4, Europe 15.0, Japan 14) (1"). From an old Hampshire collection; acquired London, in the 1970s. [No Reserve] Fine condition.
13th-14th century AD. A square-section silver hoop with ribbed expanding shoulders, discoid bezel with intaglio lion rampant. 2.39 grams, 20mm overall, 17.65mm internal diameter (approximate size British O, USA 7 1/4, Europe 15.0, Japan 14) (3/4"). Property of a Middlesex gentleman; acquired in the 1980s. [No Reserve] Fine condition.
CARVED POWDER HORN, carved with oval bust portraits titled 'CMdr PERRY' and 'CMdr MORRIS' beneath the date 1812, the reverse with portrait of a three masted war o' war above the motto 'WE SHALL CONQUER', length 25cm Footnote: Probably carved to commemorate the Battle of Lake Erie, also know as the Battle of Put-In Bay. Oliver Hazard Perry, often referred to as the Hero of the Lake, transferred his flag from USS Lawrence to USS Niagara during the battle. He was transported to the Lawrence in a rowing boat while under heavy British fire.
