Lot 448

A piston and connecting rod from the Rolls Royce Merlin engine of Battle of Britain Spitfire X4036 from No 234 Squadron, which was shot down in combat 6th September 1940, the pilot (P/O Gordon) being killed. It was recovered from the crash site (location not specified) in May 2003. In clean excavated condition (the skirt of the piston missing, the connecting rod bent and twisted). Plate 2From the collection of the late Steven Hall of Brighton,  a well known authority on WWII German aircraft crash sites and aircrew who were killed or captured.
