WAYNE JOHN: (1907-1979) American Actor, Academy Award winner, & O´HARA MAUREEN (1920-2015) Irish Actress and Singer. Signed cinema magazine cover `John Wayne´, and `With Best Wishes´, by John Wayne and Maureen O´Hara respectively. The French cinema magazine being "Cinémonde", nº 892, issued on 8th September 1951, and shows to the large 10.5 x 16 colour front cover Wayne and O´Hara in costume, kissing each other, in a scene of Rio Grande (1950) directed by John Ford. The paperback cinema magazine contains twenty pages dedicated to various contemporary films and includes over seventy images. Signed in bold black ink by both actors, to clear areas of the front cover. Small overall, minor age wear, with few stains, none affecting the signatures. G £150-200
HOLMES OLIVER WENDELL: (1809-1894) American Physician, Poet, Professor and Author. A.L.S., O W Holmes, three pages, 8vo, Edinburgh, 27th June 1886, to Mr. Broadbent. Holmes responds to his correspondents letter, curtly stating 'I have found no time to answer the letters which have followed one at different intervals… but you , of course, know nothing of the fatigued condition in which your letter finds one.' Continuing 'The simple truth is I have been overworked in London… After Commemoration Day at Oxford I hope to be allured to "take mine ease in mine inn" or as such place of quiet as I may chance to find, and refit and replenish after the wear and tear and exhaustion of laborious enjoyments.' Concluding 'I hope to have a little quiet interval in England and then perhaps slip away to the continent, where any friends are less numerous and less pressing in their hospitality and their claims on my time and attention. Believe me.' With blank integral leaf. VG £150-200 On Commemoration Day (30th June 1886) Holmes received his third honorary degree from Oxford. Holmes subsequently visited the continent and upon his return to the United States, published a travelogue entitled Our One Hundred Days in Europe (1887)'Shall I not take mine ease in mine inn?' [HITLER ADOLF]: (1889-1945) Fuhrer of the Third Reich 1934-45. Three unused oblong 4to sheets of Hitler's printed stationery, featuring his name "Adolf Hitler" and address ('Berlin W 8, Kanzlei Des Fuhrers der NSDAP') printed in black at the head. About EX £150-200 Provenance, accompanied by a copy of a statement of origin signed by Richard O. Rex stating that he personally removed the stationery from the Reich Chancellery in Berlin in July 1945 after having been flown in to help establish a medical dispensary for use during The Potsdam Conference. Also signed by a Notary Public as a witness. Together with copies of further supporting detailed documentation relating to Rex and his acquisitions.
