Royal Fleet Auxiliary group of ten medals spanning almost 30 years of service with the RFA, comprising South Atlantic Medal (rosette) named 2/O P J Snelson RFA Sir Galahad; General Service Medal with clasps for Gulf and Air Operations Iraq named to 1/O (N) P J Snelson RFA Service; Gulf Medal named to 1/O (X) P J Snelson RFA, United Nations Medal (UNPROFOR); Operational Service Medal for Afghanistan named C/O (X) P J Snelson RFA; Iraq Medal with clasp 19 March to 28 April 2003 named to C/O (X) P J Snelson RFA; NATO Medal with Libya/Libye clasp; Golden Jubilee Medal; Diamond Jubilee Medal and Royal Fleet Auxiliary Service Medal with bar, named to C/O (X) P J Snelson 23/12/90. Peter John Snelson was a 2nd Officer on RFA Sir Galahad and was on the bridge when she was hit by Argentinian bombs during the Falklands War. His service continued and included the 2011 Libya Operations, on the new RFA Sir Galahad during Operation Telic. Also included are some boxes of issue and the Saudi Medal for the Gulf War. Peter Snelson died in June 2019 aged 66.

Scots Guards The WW2 Campaign Medals of Lieutenant Colonel G.A.D. Taylor MC. Commanding Officer 2nd Bn.Awarded to Lieutenant Colonel Guy Aime Dubosc Taylor MC who was Killed in Action in June 1944. Comprising: Medal Group: Africa Star, clasp “8th Army”, Italy Star, Defence Medal, War Medal. The medals are accompanied by forwarding condolence slip with typed name “Lieut-Colonel G.A.D. Taylor M.C. Contained in original forwarding box addressed to Mrs C.V.V. Romer c/o Major N.M. Romer Horse Guards. .. The medal group is accompanied by Lt. Col Taylor’s accoutrements japanned tin with engraved name plate ... Eton School Rowing Medal ... 2x Royal Tournament medals ... regimental History “The Scots Guards 1919-1955” containing a number of photographs by Col Taylor and also contains a number of mentions (Poor Condition) ... etc. PLEASE NOTE Military Cross & 1939/45 Star not present. GC ... plus various prints of regimental uniforms. (Quantity)The citation for the award of the Military Cross appeared in the London Gazette on the 18th May 1943 “On the 6th March 1943 at Tadjer Khir, Major Taylor was in command of an Anti-Tank Company of the Battalion. When the Battalion was attacked by tanks Major Taylor moved fearlessly from one Ant-Tank gun position to another, directing the fire of the guns and encouraging the crews. His complete disregard of danger was an example to all and contributed largely to the destruction of a number of German tanks”. Lieutenant Colonel Guy Aime Dubosc Taylor MC after education at Eton was commissioned into the Scots Guards in 1930. At the outbreak of WW2 he was serving as an Intelligence Officer with the Battalion and embarked for service in Norway. After this disastrous campaign he returned to the UK and was posted to the Middle East. After the North African Campaign he landed with the Battalion in Italy. On the 26th June, the Scots Guards with the support of Tanks attacked a strong German position, the objective was taken by mid morning and the Guards began consolidating their new position clearing pockets of enemy troops. The Germans kept a constant flow of mortar bombs falling on the Guards and it would be direct hit from one of these, that would Kill Lt Col Taylor and a fellow senior Officer. An number of Lt Col Taylor’s photographs appear in the Regimental History and the Imperial War Museum hold some of his papers. The medal box is addressed to his widow who remarried.

(8cm.) diam (2)Condition report: Barker: fine overall condition, some rubbing to back of case. French: silvering tarnished, gilt to case worn, lining worn, missing part of securing catch. Thermometer intact and retaining mercury. Both respond well to bag test.
