Lot 7

WW2 40 bomber Command veterans multiple signed books. The Starkey Sacrifice the Allied Bombing of Le Portel 1943 by Michael Cumming, hard back book and dust cover published 1996, both in good condition. In the Summer of 1943, a make-believe invasion of France codenamed Operation Starkey was to sue the Germans into believing invasion in the Pas de Calais was imminent. Part of this was to attack long range guns to the north and south of the seaside French port of Le Portel. However, the gun sites were barely harmed but some 500 French civilians in Le Portel were killed. This book tells the story. This copy has a signed matted bookplate on the first title page and has been signed in the book across the second title page by the following 40 Bomber Command Veterans.
