A wonderful insight into late Victorian daily life on board naval warships in dock and on training exercises (spine boards a little roughened o/w gd, contents gd)
Boxing, a scarce piece of boxing history, a flyer (1860's) for the bare-knuckle fighter Tom Sayers 'Farewell to the King' a poem listing all his fights including his lengthy battle with the USA champion John Heenan which took place at Farnborough, on the reverse is a programme of entertainment entitled 'Tom Sayers Champion of the World' with a list of performers inc. Tom with his trophies and Tom and Young Brooks demonstrating the Art of Self Defence. This may have been a benefit performance or part of the circuses of Howes & Cushing or Jem Mayers Great American Circus, which Sayers purchased in 1861 (some age toning & creasing o/w gd for its age)
