Castelvetro, a native of Modena, visited England for the first time in 1574. He returned in 1580 and enjoyed the patronage of Sir Philip Sidney , Sir Christopher Hatton , and Sir Francis Walsingham; i n 1592 he became Italian tutor to James VI of Scotland and Queen Anne, and later taught at Cambridge. His time in England was interspersed with frequent trips to the Continent, including the great book fairs at Basel and Frankfurt.
