A sapphire and diamond cluster ring, centred with a cushion-shaped sapphire within a surround of graduated old cushion-shaped diamonds, in foil-back closed setting in silver on gold, with lobed decoration the reverse and scroll decoration to the gold band, size O approximately Accompanied by report number 80273-50 dated 26 August 2020 from GCS stating that the cushion-cut sapphire 15.9 x 12.3 x 5.0mm approximately and is a natural sapphire with no indications of heat treatment. Origin: Sri Lanka (Ceylon). Comment: the colour has been modified by the setting.

This painting depicts Officers, Other Ranks, Bandsmen etc. in the various forms of dress, whilst the Regiment was at Minorca. The men wear a variety of head-dress, including bicorn hats, fur cap and Tam-o’-Shanter. Set into a card mount. GC Size 21 x 19 inches. This painting is published in Vol III opposite the title page.
WW1 8th BN Royal Scots Fusiliers Military Cross Legion d’Honneur Group of Four Medals.Awarded to Captain Henry Steven Bryce who took command when all senior officers were killed or wounded and led his men under heavy machine gun and artillery fire. Comprising:Military Cross “H.S. BRYCE R.S.F. 19TH SEPT 1917” (Privately Engraved), British War Medal, Victory Medal, “CAPT” (RENAMED), French d’Honneur Chevalier (Enamel Damaged). Group mounted for display. ... Accompanied by a quantity of research. Military Cross London Gazette 1st January 1919. “For conspicuous gallantry during operations against the Touque on 19th September 1918. His Company Commander and other Officers having early become casualties, he led the Company on to the objective under intense machine gun and artillery fire. He kept his men in the enemy second line until the last possible moment and when ordered to withdraw, he withdrew them successfully. His cool courage and able leadership were o fine example to those under him.”.French d’Honneur Chevalier London Gazette 7th October 1919.Captain Henry Steven Bryce was born in 1894 and enlisted into the Black Watch landed in France during August 1916. He applied for commission and this was granted into the Royal Scots Fusiliers which was granted in July 1917. Returning to France he was wounded to the right arm and hand at Verlianes on the 24th March 1918, but was soon returned to his unit. Joining the 8th Bn R.S.F. during the closing stages of the war the Battalion was transferred to Salonika, during the action which he won the Military Cross he was wounded along with 18 other Officers who were killed or wounded. He remained with the Regiment after the war for a short period.

Group mounted for display. Distinguished Conduct Medal London Gazette 26th July 1917.“For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Whilst in charge of a working party he showed great coolness and courage under heavy shell fire. During which he was wounded in several places and buried twice. Notwithstanding this he carried on with his work and then skillfully withdrew his party”. Italian Croce de Guerra London Gazette 17th May 1919.Warrant Officer Thomas Blockley DCM was a native of Melbourne Derbyshire volunteered o serve with the 8th Bn York & Lancs Regiment and landed in France on the 27th August 1915. The action resulting in the award of the DCM is believed to have taken place during the Battle of Messines. The Battalion served on the Western Front before transferring to the Italian front in November 1917 as part of the 23rd Division. He was discharged on the 15th April 1917.This combination of the D.C.M. and Italian War Cross is unique to the Battalion.
Royal Field Artillery Mounted Officer’s Victorian horse harness breastplate.Good gilt metal Universal pattern for mounted Officers device, viz Guelphic crowned Garter with central VR cypher, mounted on brown leather backing, in turn mounted onto a brown leather heart shaped breast plate. Three leather straps attached to corners. Reverse stamped “8/RFA/O/1”. The straps now bearing various post 1901 cap badges. Minor service wear. GC
WW2 Showa Period Japanese Officer’s “Surrender” Sword with accompanying Paperwork & Provenance.A scarce near complete grouping, this being the sword of Lieutenant Yosuida an Artillery Officer of the Southern Army. Comprising: Sword, this with a 27 inch polished blade of good quality. The tang with maker’s stamps, indicating made by O-Gawa Kanekuni of Noshu Province. The hilt with military mounts the pommel with a family “Mon” indicating Yosuida. Housed in painted metal scabbard. The sword retains original sword knot and brown leather field cover for the handle. The scabbard with original linen surrender label giving details of the original owner and his unit details. Good clean condition ... The sword is accompanied by the original Certificate of Possession allowing 14763319 Sergeant R Brown to have the sword issued by the Special Investigation Branch May 1946 ... A photograph of Sergeant Brown and Lieutenant Yosuida ... Silk Japanese Prayer flag with signatures. Overall condition is near Very Good a very complete and comprehensive grouping. Interpretation of tang markings and surrender label accompanies the lot. The regimental number indicates that Sgt Brown was service with the General Service Corps. The interpretation of the markings on the tang and label are supplied by the vendor. Potential buyers should satisfy themselves to the accuracy of the interpretation before bidding.
