Lot 53

O Yemi Tubi, "Lest we Forget", unframed oil on canvas, 2020, 36 x 29in. The common words on many Cenotaphs around the world are “LEST WE FORGET.” Cenotaphs are monuments often erected to commemorate the heroes of the war. The outbreak of the coronavirus produced our unlikely heroes; our frontline warriors that rose to the task of defending and saving many people from the death of coronavirus. This painting was done in honour of our unlikely heroes; As we honour the living, LEST WE FORGET our falling Unlikely Heroes which is the title of this painting. Located in London, shipping arranged by the artist, charges will depend on location.

Lot 54

O Yemi Tubi, "My Mother", unframed oil on canvas, 2020, 36 x 29in. A mother is a woman and a part of the roots that bring children into the existence. A mother is a woman that gives nourishment and stability, to allow development and transformation of children from conception to the day of birth and beyond. Women contribute lots to the sustenance of human race. Besides giving birth, they nurse the children, work and fought alongside of men in our world of crisis. This painting and some of my paintings advocate for better treatment of women. There are lots that threaten the existence of human race in this world like racism, wars, natural disasters to name a few; women can save our world from extinction when we treat them with tender loving care. Every natural woman posesses God given ability to reproduce and procreate to save humanity from extinction. With this painting, my submission is that women are the beautiful flowers and men are the bees. To save humanity from extinction, the bees need to give the flowers tender-loving-care to have successful pollination to procreate and save our world. Located in London, shipping arranged by the artist, charges will depend on location.

Lot 55

O Yemi Tubi, "GELE (African Head Wrap): Vintage and Modern", unframed oil on canvas, 2019, 36 x 48in. Gele is the headpiece usually worn by women across Africa for day-to-day activities and on special occasions. I am using “GELE – Vintage and Modern” as a metaphorical image to spotlight changes in African culture in this modern day. The art of tying Gele is disappearing like other traditional skills and many modern African young ladies are disadvantaged. This painting is a homage to my mother and to all the industrious African mothers of the vintage years. They spent quality time with their children while working to support their families. They carried their children on their backs while working on the farms or managing their trading stalls. The artist’s mum carried her child on her back and on her head is the tray of fabrics she sells from door to door to provide for her family. It is great that modern African ladies could boast of having billions of followers and likes on social media but the only sincere followers and likes that really count are those of the members of their families. Modern African women, be virtuous women. Embrace the modern trends but don’t neglect the rich virtues of African heritage. Located in London, shipping arranged by the artist, charges will depend on location.

Lot 56

O Yemi Tubi, "SENSUALITY 2: The abuse of Swazi’s Queens", unframed oil on canvas, 2019, 18 x 24in. There have been allegations of abuse and isolation of some of the Swazi’s queens. Two of the wives of King Mswati III, Putsoana Hwala and Delisa Magwaza, left him in 2004. At the age of 18, Zena Mahlangu, was allegedly abducted by royal aides to become the king’s 10th wife; Queen Nothando Dube, the 12th wife of the King, was allegedly beaten and imprisoned. Queen Senteni Masango took her own life due to depression and the misery of her royal life. The terrible ordeal of these young ladies influenced this painting. In my usual style I depict the lives of these unfortunate ladies as roses and thorns. Doubtlessly, the days they were selected among thousands of other young ladies would have been their happiest days with joyous anticipation of potentially rosy time ahead. The thorns are the unimaginable terrible ordeal they encountered that lead one of the queens, Queen Senteni Masango to commit suicide. The dark hunting shadow at the background of the painting is the image of King Mswati III depicting him as the main figure behind the unhappiness of these queens. The main image in the front is that of one of the queens taking part in the Reed Dance before being selected to be queen. The white bead necklace is to depict her virginity. Located in London, shipping arranged by the artist, charges will depend on location.

Lot 57

O Yemi Tubi, "The Glamour and the Sexual Abuse in Hollywood", unframed oil on canvas, 2018, 36 x 48in. “I met them all. Some were vicious and crooked. But … you saw Hollywood with their eyes — an overcrowded brothel, a merry-go-round with beds for horses.” Marilyn Monroe. Many aspiring performing artists across the world moved to Hollywood with a dream to be superstars of the silver screens but few ever walked on Hollywood red carpet without the scares of the fame and fortune. This painting was inspired when recent victims of Hollywood sexual predators started to speak out about their ordeals. At the background of this painting, looking through the window, I painted the sunset at the back of the Hollywood landmark to depict the sunset of the careers and lives of many of victims of sexual abuse in Hollywood. The picture of Marilyn Monroe was included in this painting as one of the notable victims of sexual abuse. In the foreground on the luxurious chaise longe is my unique style of rose and stems of thorns woven to a woman. The rose symbolises the glamour and fame of Hollywood actress and the thorns are the painful ordeals of the victim. Located in London, shipping arranged by the artist, charges will depend on location.
