WW2 The Great Escape multi signed cover including The actor Richard (Lord) Attenborough who played Squadron Leader Bartlett in the film The Great Escape, the actor James Garner who played Henley in the film The Great Escape, P/O Alfred Keith Ogilvie DFC 609 Squadron RAF Battle of Britain and survivor of The Great Escape from Stalag Luft III in 1944. On 4th July 1941 Ogilvie was in Spitfire MkVa X4664 and was shot down near Bethune in France. Badly wounded, he was captured and subsequently spent nine months in hospitals in Lille and Brussels. Having recovered, Ogilvie was sent to Stalag Luft III at Sagan in Poland and by 1944 was a leading member of the escape committee headed by S/Ldr. Roger Bushell, his name was one of those drawn to take part in the Great Escape on the night of 24th/25th March 1944. He was one of the last few to clear the tunnel before it was discovered. Ogilvie was at large for two days before being recaptured. He was interrogated by the Gestapo at Gorlitz prison but eventually returned to the camp where he learned that fifty of his fellow escapees had been shot and Andrew Wiseman RAF who had been shot down over France in 1944 and sent to Stalag Luft III. He organised the 50th Anniversary survivors visit to the former POW camp. All four signed on a The Great Escape from Stalag Luft III 23rd March 1944 cover with a Great Escape Stalag Luft III 23rd March 1994 postmark. Good condition. Hjortdahl, with pin and 'C' catch, 48mm long, 10.10g, together with an early 20th century silver blue zircon and white zircon spray brooch, with pin and roller catch, 56mm long, 11.26g, and a 9ct gold cubic zirconia wreath brooch with pin and roller catch, 23mm diameter, 2.44g (3)Condition report: Enamel brooch:Enamel in good condition, no apparent chips or scratches.Brooches appears to have previously been gilded, gilding worn.'C' catch slightly bent.Some tarnish and very minor surface marks to back of brooch.Zircon brooch:Abrasions/wear to the facet junctions of some of the zircons.The end zircon appears to have come out of setting and been later glued back in at an angle. The glue appears to be secure but we recommend attention/re-setting of the stone by a professional setter. One claw to that stone probably needs re-tipping,Silver tarnished.The end sprig which the roller catch is soldered to the back of appears a little bent, so the roller catch is at a slight angle and hence pin does not move easily in and out of the roller catch.
