The canvas tension is good and the picture is in plane. The paint layer is in a very good condition overall. There is an old, vertical damage below the sitter’s hands which has been repaired and retouching. At the top of the sitter’s hair and above this in the background are areas where the varnish is disrupted and there is darkened overpaint present. The varnish is glossy, clear and even. There are several accretions across the surface.
