(14 x 9.6 x 5.1cm.); the case by James Deakin & Sons, Birmingham 1915, rectangular form, 7th Gurkha Rifles crest to front with engraved 'A.S.M. 3-11-17' to upper left (for Lt. Col. A. S. Mackay), reverse with a spray of reeds to lower left and Mackay family crest to upper right, 4¼ x 3½in. (10.8 x 8.9cm.); together with a small leather case with 'A.P.S. Mackay' lettering to lid; a black leather wallet with gilt tooled inscription 'A.S. Mackay 7th Gurkha Rifles'; and a small circular horn lidded box with silver roundel engraved 'A.P.S.M. 28.5.34'. Mackay, 7th Gurkha Rifles, with Churchill facsimile signature; two King George V signed appointment letters marking the occasions of appointments as officer in territorial and land forces, one signature in ink the other in pencil, with light blue Royal seals; and an officers training corps certificate.

Impressive Ottoman/Turkish Saluting Cannon and Limber, the 2 stage bronze barrel with raised shaped cartouche chiselled ‘Hezarfen Mustafa Aga-zade el-Seyyid Mehmed Emin year 1185’ [=1771-72], turned reinforces, front section with scale pattern in relief, swollen and fluted muzzle, grey painted iron mounted carriage and limber, iron axles, spoked dished wheels, block trail with capstan elevating screw, limber with ammunition box. Barrel length 72cms, overall 67” when assembled from muzzle to back of limber. Good condition, cascabel missing. Note: Mehmed Emin Aga was the son of Topcubasi (Master General of Artillery) Hezarfen Mustafa Aga, and after his father’s death in 1184/1770 himself rose to the same position. He died in 1189/1775 and was buried in the Defterdar Camii (see Mehmed Sureyya, Sicill-i-Osmnani, vol. 2, Istanbul, 1996, p.452). Translation and reference credit s Will Kwiatkowski.
