The Officer's field campaign camping kit used by RAFO Squadron Leader J. W. Morison (192123) during the Second World War comprising an enamel chamberstick, a bath basin/bucket with folding stand, folding chair, folding cot with a sleeping bag, RAF Aircrew Thermos flask and two kit hold-alls, individually named and numbered. Squadron Leader Morison served as an engineer with the Administrative and Special Services Branch. During World War II, he served in Shropshire with the Royal Air Force establishing, maintaining and operating the various airfields in the county. He also served in the Far East (Burma) in a similar role and married in Singapore shortly after hostilities had ceased. Mr Morison went on to successfully deliver many other engineering projects around the world in both public and private service. He was awarded the M.B.E in 1960 for his work in power engineering and retired in the 1970s. Service history: Served at Area H.Q. Market Drayton Dec. 1938-April 1941; Commissioned Squadron Leader in R.A.F.O (192123) for duties in Ceylon and Malaya, August 1945. Ceylon Area H.Q. Aug. 1945 - Sept. 1945;" Singapore/Malaya Area H.Q Sept. 1945 - Sept. 1948. Also served in Voluntary Services, 1938-1941 L.D.V.'s, 1943-1945 Fire, 1956-1960 Cyprus Police.

A JAPANESE SHOKI-IMARI DISH EDO PERIOD, C.1630-40 The well decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with a small hare prancing beneath a scrolling cloud, inscribed to the side 'Spring White Hare' in a rectangular cartouche, the design created in fukizumi with paper stencils covered in splashed ink, the outlines drawn afterwards in cobalt blue, the surface speckled with sand or grit, raised on a circular unglazed foot, 20.3cm. Provenance: formerly a Japanese private collection. See Portland Art Museum, access. no.2018.76.21 for a related Shoki-Imari dish depicting a rabbit prancing under a cloud. Also, see the British Museum, access. no.1959,0418.1 for a dish with the moon and rabbit. Cf. R S Jenyns, Japanese Porcelain, pl.6B, where the British Museum dish is discussed. This dish is an example of early porcelain produced at the Tengudani kiln in Arita. The original design was Chinese; the hare is often represented pounding the elixir of life.
AN UNUSUAL JAPANESE MINIATURE TWO-CASE LACQUER INRO MEIJI PERIOD OR LATER, 19TH CENTURY OR LATER The delicate body rendered in gold and red hiramaki-e, kirikane and takamaki-e on the nashiji ground and with inlays in aogai (abalone shell); decorated to one side with a taiko drum amongst falling maple leaves and the reverse with a torikabuto, an elaborate headdress with long tassels, also surrounded by autumn leaves; suspended on a silk cord and with a small coral ojime, 4.5cm. (3) The torikabuto is an elaborate hat inspired by the crownlike head of the mythical phoenix. This headdress and the taiko drum were used for gagaku, the traditional Imperial music and dance performance. The unusually small size of this inro may indicate that it was made for a child to wear on a special occasion, possibly for the Hanamatsuri or Kodomo no Hi festivals. ROBERTSON GOLLY COLLECTOR'S BADGES - approximately 90, mainly reproduction but including some stamped 'GOMM Birmingham' and 'F & S' including a cased 1985 set of six Special Edition 1940 Brooch CollectionN.B. Originally handmade by mothers in Africa for their children from old fabric and cloth, the golly doll was adopted as the mascot and trademark for the Robertson's confectionery brand around 1910 after the company's founder John Robertson visited the US and noticed children playing with them. Robertson's Gollies have been collected by people across the UK and around the world for generations but garnered a contentious image in the 1980s. The trademark was removed from Robertson's branding in 2001. These items are listed on the basis they are illustrative of a by-gone culture, but we believe that providing transparent information about historical context fosters greater understanding of our complex cultural history.

A shallow pierced geometric basket to scrolled chenier shoulders and a plain shank. Tested as platinum and 18ct gold. Head 16.30 x 0.90mm, 3.65g.Finger size S½ approximately, not roundCondition report: The shank has been enlarged in the past, but quite a lot and is very thin at this point. An unidentified mark to the pierced plate, possibly a maker's mark. The mark is an 'S' within an off-set square.
