SHIPWRECK COMMEMORATIVE. An old plaster plaque, commemorating the loss of the emigrant ship "JOHN" on the Manacles Reef off The Lizard peninsula, Cornwall in 1855. Made from an impression taken from the headstone of the mass-grave of the 120 victims in St. Keverne churchyard & annotated by the maker. 13.5x10.5x3cm. Note: The "John" was a 468 ton three-masted sailing ship that traded primarily between the South West of England and the United States and Canada during the mid-1800s.
