A Parian Porcelain Figure of Musidora, after William Theed, Copeland 1867, for the Ceramic and Crystal Palace Art Union 1866, impressed marks and title, 44cm high This is the companion figure to Malempré`s shepherd boy, and is based on the marble statue executed in 1866 for the Prince of Wales, exhibited at the 1866 RA, and placed in Marlborough House, London. Musidora is a water nymph featured in James Thompson`s The Seasons (1730) who was loved by Damon, a young swane. From a copse he sees her bathing and writes the following lines in sand on the river bank: Bathe on, my fair, - yet unbeheld save by the second I, of a fateful love; I go to guard thy haunt, to keep from thy recess each vagrant foot and each licentious eye For a similar figure see The Parian Phenomenon, edited by Paul Atterbury, published by Richard Dennis, page 153, illus 518
Venus, after John Gibson RA, Copeland, circa 1850-70, standing holding an apple in her left hand and holding her tunic mantle (with gilt and tinted borders), on a shaped oval stepped base, impressed Copeland, 42.5cm high A similar figure is illustrated in Copeland (Robert) Parian, Copeland`s Statuary Porcelain, page 188, illustration and entry S182. Gibson`s original sculpture of Venus was executed in marble and was known as Venus Verticordia, and was completed in 1833. The one reproduced by Copeland was introduced in 1849 and was included in the display at The Great Exhibition of 1851.

Marshall was awarded £500 for this design by the Art Union of London. The marble version was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1848.

An English Tin Glaze Drug Jar, probably London, circa 1750, of ovoid form, on one side only with a strapwork cartouche inscribed E:LENITIU:, surmounted by a shell flanked by two winged putti, cupid`s head below flanked by flower swags, 19.1cm high E LENITIU is electuarium lenitivun, an electuary with mild purgative action. It was made from senna, tamarind pulp, prunes, polypody rhizome, liquorice and other ingredients.

A Very Rare Giant-Sized Second World War German Luftwaffe Aviators Wristwatch, signed A Lange & Sohne, so called B-Uhr, circa 1941, frosted gilt finished lever movement signed A.Lange & Sohne and numbered 214550, bimetallic balance with blued overcoil hairspring (balance staff broken), original finished black coloured dial with luminous outer five minute markers and inner hour dial, blued steel luminous hands, large centre seconds hand, large sized nickel silver plated case with snap-on back numbered 214550, band of the case numbered FI 23882, inner case back with full details and matching number, onion shaped winding crown, 55mm wide A.Lange & Sohne developed this model c.1940 for Luftwaffe pilots. The German Air Ministry recognised the need for an accurate observer`s watch to navigate and assist crews on long range flying missions. The watches are known as B-Uhrs (Beobachtungsuhr or observer`s watch). The watches were tested by the Deutsche Versuchsanstalt fur Luftfahrt DVL Institute. From 1941 onwards they were classified with an FI number which stands for flight and control, the 23 stands for navigation and followed by the three digit DVL number. A well tested watch with a high quality movement, and arguably the most desirable WWII German aviator`s watch on the market today. It is understood the vendor`s father brought this watch back from the D-Day landings in 1944.

A Dutch Silver Gilt Berry Knop Spoon, maker`s mark indistinct, Leeuwarden, circa 1620-40, with fig shaped bowl, cast hexagonal tapering stem and cast berry finial, initialled IT over IR and later crested to the interior of the bowl, 17.2cm long, 1oz 7dwt This spoon is one of a rare Dutch group typified by straight stems and berry finials made in and around Leeuwarden in the first half of the 17th century, though many are unmarked.
